FALCON WOMEN'S BASKETBALL - MEDIA INFORMATION
The BGSU Athletic Communications Office welcomes interest in the Bowling Green women's basketball program by the media and looks forward to serving members of the media during the upcoming season. We will make every effort to ensure a pleasant and professional working environment. The following are some guidelines to help with your coverage of Falcon women's basketball:
RELEASES, GAME NOTES, ETC.
BGSU women's basketball releases, game notes and other information can be accessed via the Internet. Log on to BGSUFalcons.com to receive information on all 18 intercollegiate sports. The women's basketball site includes a schedule, roster, all press releases (usually in portable document [.pdf] as well as text format), results (including boxscores) and up-to-date statistics. Members of the media can receive all releases via e-mail by contacting BGSU women's basketball SID Mike Cihon.
BGSU RADIO & INTERNET BROADCASTS
The BGSU department of athletics, Falcon Sports Properties and the Bowling Green Radio Sports Organization (BGRSO) have reached an agreement under which WBGU-FM (88.1) will serve as the flagship station for Falcon women's basketball again this season. The group is scheduled to broadcast every regular-season game in 2010-11, and would carry any postseason action as well. The broadcasters vary on a game-to-game basis. In the event of possible conflicts with BGSU hockey broadcasts (WBGU is also the flagship station for Falcon hockey), the games will still be available on the web. All games can be heard on the web, free of charge, at BGSUFalcons.com.
CREDENTIALS
Credentials are only issued to accredited members of the working media. Press and photo credentials for Falcon women's basketball home games should be requested at least 48 hours in advance. Seating is limited to working press only. Requests should be directed to Mike Cihon, BGSU Athletic Communications, 247 Perry Stadium East, Bowling Green, Ohio 43403-0030 (mjcihon@bgsu.edu). A press pass doubles as a parking pass. Passes will be mailed if time permits.
IN-SEASON INTERVIEW POLICY
All interviews with players and coaches should be arranged through Mike Cihon in the athletic communications office. A few notes ...
* Please allow 24 to 48 hours to set up interviews.
* HOME, CELL AND/OR DORM ROOM PHONE NUMBERS FOR STUDENT-ATHLETES (IN ANY SPORT) WILL NOT BE MADE AVAILABLE.
* Student-athletes will not be asked to miss class for any interviews or media opportunities. Arrangements will be made for telephone and/or in-person interviews at a mutually-agreeable time.
* Interviews may be done in person following practice. Since practice times vary, please contact Mike Cihon for an updated schedule. On game days, no interviews will be granted prior to competition.
PHOTOGRAPHERS
Only those accredited photographers working on assignment will be issued credentials. No flashes or strobe units are permitted without prior clearance from the athletic communications office or Anderson Arena staff. Photographers should shoot from the designated areas. All areas of the east sideline (opposite team benches) and north end are open; at the south end, only one photographer at a time under the basket; no more than two photographers in the SW corner. Photographers must stay behind the orange band around the outside of the playing surface and must not block the view of fans. PHOTOGRAPHERS NEEDING A SEAT AT PRESS ROW FOR IN-GAME TRANSMISSION OF PHOTOS MUST MAKE THEIR REQUEST IN ADVANCE OF THE GAME.
DIRECTIONS TO ANDERSON ARENA
The quickest and most convenient way to Anderson Arena is via Interstate 75. Take exit 181 off of I-75 and head west (toward Doyt Perry [football] Stadium) on Wooster Street. Go to the second traffic light (Mercer Road) and turn right. Go to Ridge Street and turn left. The arena and parking lot will be approximately one-half mile ahead, on the left side.
PARKING
The media parking lot for Anderson Arena is Lot N/14 – the large lot just to the east, off of Ridge Street. Anyone holding a press credential is entitled to free parking, but an early arrival is suggested, since the lot is also open to Falcon Club members with passes. Media members picking up their credentials at the press gate will have their names included on a parking list.
PRESS 'ROW' SERVICES
Programs, game notes, and other pertinent game information will be supplied along press 'row,' located high atop the arena on the west side. Water and soft drinks will be available in the second-floor media room, and pizza will be available on press row approximately one hour prior to the game. Several statistics monitors are located on press row and will continually be updated throughout the game. A complete box score and play-by-play will be available in the post-game interview area shortly after the game's completion (NOTE: Statistics will be distributed to working media only). There are several telephones in the press box for use after the game, and there are also several ethernet connections available.
POST-GAME INTERVIEWS
A post-game press conference will be held in Room 202 on the intermediate level of the arena approximately five to 10 minutes after the conclusion of the game. Unless circumstances dictate otherwise, the visiting coach and any requested players will speak first, followed by Coach Miller and requested BGSU players. BGSU observes a closed lockerroom policy. NO INTERVIEWS OF PLAYERS OR COACHES ARE TO BE CONDUCTED ON THE COURT, WITH THE LONE EXCEPTION OF AN ON-CAMERA INTERVIEW BY THE TELEVISION STATION THAT AIRED THE GAME. As mentioned earlier, on game days, no interviews will be granted prior to competition.
ViSITING RADIO
Requests for permission to broadcast must be made in writing at least two weeks prior to the game. There is typically a fee for stations wishing to broadcast a game at venerable Anderson Arena. However, the fee will be waived for the official station of the visiting school if there is a reciprocal agreement.
