MAC releases hoops television schedule

The Falcons' home games against Akron and Eastern Michigan both will be aired by the Cleveland-based network, as will BGSU's game at Toledo. The Akron game on Saturday, Jan. 7, will begin at noon at the brand-new Stroh Center, while the EMU game will tip off at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 22. The UT game will be a noon contest, on Saturday, Feb. 11, in the Glass City.
As a result of the BGSU-UT women's game being picked up by television, the start time has been changed for the teams' men's basketball game that same day. The men's game will begin at 4:00 p.m. at the Stroh.
BGSU's three regular-season appearances are tied for the most by a MAC women's basketball team in 2011-12. All 12 conference schools will be on at least once.
"I am excited about the MAC's television schedule, and the amount of games that we were able to garner because of our success," said Falcon head coach Curt Miller. "It will be fun to get a chance to show off our new building to a television audience, with two TV games at the Stroh Center.
"The Eastern Michigan game will be a rematch of last year's MAC Tournament championship game, and they will be a very strong team again this season. Akron will be one of the favorites to win the East Division, so that will be a very tough early-season test for our young team."
In addition to the 10-game regular-season women's basketball slate, STO also will air the First Energy MAC Tournament semifinals and championship again this season. The semifinals are set for Friday, March 9, at noon and 2:30 p.m. in downtown Cleveland. The league tourney championship game will start at 1:00 p.m. the following day (Saturday, March 10) at Quicken Loans Arena.
In all, the MAC television schedule includes a total of 39 men's and women's games produced and distributed by STO, as well as a minimum of 12 game broadcast on the ESPN Family of Networks. STO's Mike Cairns will provide the play-by-play coverage of the women's basketball broadcasts, with Jacki Windon returning as analyst.
The Falcons, winners of MAC regular-season titles in each of the last seven years, return nine players from a year ago. BGSU went 28-5 overall and 13-3 in league regular-season action, winning the league's East Division crown. The Falcons then won the MAC Tournament title to advance to the NCAA Championships for the fifth time in seven seasons.
