
Oakland Slides Past Falcons

Rochester, Mich. – The Oakland University volleyball team hit .279 and the Grizzlies beat Bowling Green in three sets Tuesday night 25-18, 25-21, 25-19. The loss was the Falcons' first non-conference defeat of the year.
Danielle Tonyan and Emily Kauth hit at a high attack rate but the Falcons were outdug and outblocked in the loss. Tonyan had 11 kills and a .375 attack percentage while Kauth added eight kills and a .438 hitting average.
Bowling Green stayed close early in each of the first two sets, leading 10-8 in the first and staying tied 9-9 in the second. But Oakland used runs midway through both frames to pull away. In the third, the Grizzlies built a 9-5 lead and pulled away to win the match.
For Tonyan, the 11 kills marked her seventh consecutive double-digit kill total. Ashley Dunn added 11 digs, her 10th consecutive double-digit dig match. Erica Fullenkamp had 10 digs to go with eight assists and three kills. Paige Penrod had six kills, a team-high two aces, and two blocks.
Oakland improves to 11-9 with the win and Bowling Green falls to 16-6. The Falcons will try to snap a four-match losing streak Friday night at rival Toledo at 7 p.m.
