BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- Following a successful season debut, the Bowling Green State University swimming team tackles back-to-back dual meets on Friday and Saturday (Oct. 28-29) against Mid-American Conference foes Ohio University and Ball State.
The Falcons host Ohio beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Friday at BGSU's Cooper Pool, which is located inside the BGSU Student Recreation Center. The Orange and Brown fell to the Bobcats last season in Athens, 173-119, but defeated Ohio 148-146 in 2009. That was OU's most recent visit to Bowling Green.
After facing Ohio, the Falcons get a brief rest before traveling to Muncie, Ind. to swim against the Ball State Cardinals. That meet begins at 1:00 p.m. in BSU's Lewellen Aquatic Center. The Cardinals will also be competing on back-to-back days, as they square off against Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Friday.
The meet against Ball State will feature a duel between the pair of swimmers most recently named Mid-American Conference Co-Swimmers of the Week. BGSU's Alexis Kain and Ball State's Bridgette Ruehl shared the award after each swept the 100- and 200-breaststroke events in their respective meets last weekend.
Kain has swept the pair of breaststroke races six times in her last eight regular season meets.
"This will be an important weekend for us, as it will test our toughness and how well we can recuperate from one day to the next. This weekend is a great way to prepare for a championship setting where the girls will have to get up and race hard three days in a row," Falcons' head coach Petra Martin said. "I scheduled these meets back-to-back on purpose to get them used to the pressure. I am excited about the challenge."
The format for both meets will be virtually identical, with all but the final race of each meet the same.
The schedule is as follows:
200 medley relay, 1000 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, 50 freestyle, 1-meter diving, 100 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 200 breaststroke, 500 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 3-meter diving, and 200 individual medley.
Friday's meet concludes with a 400 freestyle relay. The concluding relay on Saturday will be 200 freestyle.
