BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- The Bowling Green State University men's golf team concludes it's five-tournament fall schedule this week when the Falcons travel to Hebron, Ky. for the 2011 Bearcat Invitational. The 54-hole event is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 10-11).
The Orange and Brown will compete against 15 teams from 14 different schools at the par-71, 7,050-yard Traditions Golf Club. Of those, only one other (Ohio University) is from the Mid-American Conference.
The University of Cincinnati hosts the tournament. Among the other schools invited to participate are Austin Peay, Belmont, Cleveland State, Dayton, Marshall and Youngstown State. The University of Kentucky will be sending two teams.
The first 36 holes are scheduled for Monday, with an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start. Tuesday's final round also begins with a shotgun start, scheduled for 15 minutes earlier than Monday.
BGSU's five-member team consists of Drew Preston, Parker Hewit, Wes Gates, Charlie Olson and Torey Brummett.
Hewit, Preston, Olson and Gates are the Falcons' regular starters; each have competed in all of BGSU's 11 rounds this year and each has a top-ten finish to their name. Hewit leads the group with a 74.82 average, while Preston has the team's low round (69) of the season.
Wes Gates' fourth-place finish at the John Piper Intercollegiate is the team's best thus far in 2011.
Brummett has played at the John Piper event, as well as at the season-opening Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate. He has a 79.33 average through six rounds, including a season-low of 76.
