Morley, Mich., native to join BGSU in 2012-13 academic year
Bowling Green State University women's basketball coach Curt Miller has announced the signing of one student-athlete to a National Letters of Intent. Bailey Cairnduff (Morley, Mich.) will join the Falcon program for the 2012-13 academic year.
“Bailey is a fantastic addition to our Falcon family,” said Miller. “She is an outstanding wing player that brings length and athleticism to our program. She has the ability to score from the three-point line, but also has the explosiveness to get herself to the basket. Bailey is the complete package, excelling in the classroom while displaying impeccable character off the court.
“I am excited that she is officially a part of our family, and I look forward to coaching her during the 2012-13 season.”
Cairnduff, a 5-10 wing, is currently in her senior year at Morley Stanwood High School, under coach Bob Raven. Cairnduff (pronounced KAREN-duff) averaged 19.5 points per game last year, also averaging 6.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 3.2 steals per game. She shot 55.9 percent from the field as a junior, hitting 38.2% of her three-point field-goal tries, and made 80.6% of her free-throw attempts.
Cairnduff led the Mohawks to a 23-1 record and the Class B regional finals last season. She was an all-state honorable-mention selection, and also was one of only three juniors named one of the 10 'Best of the Best' players on the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan last winter. That honor spans all four divisions in Michigan.
The team has won the Central State Athletic Association in each of Cairnduff's first three seasons. Morley Stanwood has posted an overall record of 71-4, including a perfect 48-0 league mark, in those three years.
Cairnduff has scored in double figures in each of her initial three seasons, averaging 12.3 ppg, 5.7 rpg and 2.0 apg as a freshman, and posting averages of 14.1 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists in her sophomore campaign.
Cairnduff enters her senior year ranked second in school history with 1,160 career points, and also has 455 career rebounds in her first three years.
The senior has received various accolades from recruiting publications throughout the state of Michigan. Michigan Girls Basketball Report called her “one of the best pure shooters in the state. Cairnduff is an all-around player with skills inside and out. Quick catch and release on her shot-consistent from the arc. One of the state's top 2012 prospects on the wing.”
Additionally, Lady Ballers Insider listed Cairnduff as the third-highest rated shooting guard in Michigan, and the 12th-ranked overall player in the state.
She has earned all-conference first-team honors as well as all-state accolades in basketball in each of her first three years. Cairnduff, also a volleyball standout, was an all-region first-team and all-state second-team selection in that sport in 2010. The 2011 MSHS volleyball team has advanced to the regional finals of the state tournament, and faces North Muskegon on Thursday night (Nov. 10). Cairnduff also competes in track for the Mohawks.
In the classroom, Cairnduff has a 3.9 grade-point average, and is interested in majoring in education at BGSU.
The Falcons, winners of at least one Mid-American Conference title in each of the last seven seasons, have advanced to the NCAA Championships in five of those seven years. BGSU opens the 2011-12 campaign on Friday night (Nov. 11) at the University of Dayton. BGSU will begin the home portion of the schedule on Thursday, Nov. 17, kicking off the Stroh Center Era by hosting nationally-ranked Purdue University.
