Scott Thomas Named MAC East Player Of The Week
November 28, 2011 | Men's Basketball
Cleveland, Ohio – Senior forward Scott Thomas led the Bowling Green State University men's basketball team to a 3-1 record and its biggest non-conference victory in head coach Louis Orr's five-year tenure with the Falcons. For those efforts, he was named the Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week Monday.
Thomas scored in double-figures in all four games during the week, helping the team to an 82-72 win over Austin Peay, a 67-61 victory over Detroit, and a stunning 67-64 win over Temple. The Falcons' lone loss on the week came in a 77-56 defeat to George Washington.
All three victories came over teams expected to perform well in their respective conferences as Austin Peay was picked to win the Ohio Valley Conference and Detroit was selected second, behind only national runner-up Butler, in the Horizon League. Temple is the sixth-most winningest program in college basketball history and was picked to finish second in the Atlantic 10.
Thomas, who is one of the most versatile players in the MAC, averaged 12.0 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. He also dished out seven assists, grabbed nine steals, and blocked two shots on the week. He made 6-of-12 three-pointers and was 8-of-9 at the free-throw line. Thomas was named to the Progressive CBE Classic All-Tournament team for his performances in the first three games of the week.
Bowling Green moved to 4-2 on the year following the week and will head on the road for most of the month of December, beginning with a contest at Western Kentucky Sunday at 2 p.m.
