BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- The Bowling Green State University swimming team will host the team's final home meet until January on Saturday (Nov. 5) at 1:00 p.m. when Eastern Michigan visits for a Mid-American Conference dual meet.
The meet will consist of the traditioinal five freestyle events (50, 100, 200, 500, 1000), the 100- and 200-yard events in the backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly, as well as the 1- and 3-meter diving events. The final individual event will be the 200 individual medley, and the teams will compete in the 200 medley and 400 free relays.
For the Falcons, Emily Bennet enters the meet as one of BGSU's top swimmers of the season to date. She has won five of her six individual starts and has also competed in three relay victories. Alexa Harris has accounted for six top-three finishes thus far, including two wins in the 200 backstroke event.
In the breaststroke, Alexis Kain has taken top honors in four of her six starts and owns two other second-place results. Not to be outdone, Vicky Yu has earned four victories and three other top-three swims, as she has competed in the butterfly and individual medley races.
As a team, the Falcons most recently fell on back-to-back days to defending MAC champion Ohio at home and to Ball State.
Eastern Michigan comes to Bowling Green with only one meet under their belt thus far this season -- a 151-149 loss to Ohio. They were led in that meet by Sara Ghaffari, who won in the 50 free, 100 free and 100 fly, and by Briana Emig. Emig won twice against Ohio, in the 500 and 1000 free events.
Falcons' head coach Petra Martin said, "We are excited to be racing at home. We will be trying some of our swimmers in different events to broaden their racing 'menu'. We are again looking for our swimmers to execute their races correctly and not hold back. All the dueal meets are part of a process of preparing for the MAC Championships, so we want them to build good habits and toughness."
Complete results and a full recap will be available at BGSUFalcons.com shortly after the conclusion of the meet.
