Head coach Penny Dean's Falcons enter the match with a record of 8-3. BGSU has won two consecutive matches and four of the last five contests. The team has been idle since a 6-1 win at Detroit on Feb. 27.
Sisters Nikki and Christine Chiricosta pace Dean's club in wins. Nikki, a freshman, has a team-leading 36 combined wins on the year, while Christine, a senior co-captain, has 35. Sophomores Maddy Eccleston and Mary Hill have 35 and 34 overall victories, respectively.
In the Detroit match, Christine Chiricosta became the BGSU career leader in singles wins, picking up the 82nd singles victory of her career. Chiricosta, who already was the BG leader in combined career wins, now has 163. She is moving ever closer to the doubles record, with her total of 81 doubles victories just three shy of tying that school record.
BGSU players have a combined singles record of 108-50 and a doubles mark of 52-24 this year to date. Falcon competitors are 42-24 in singles action in dual-match play, and BG doubles teams are 23-10 since the start of dual matches.
Youngstown State enters the weekend with a dual record of 3-4 this year. The Penguins' last action came on March 6, as the team dropped a 7-0 decision to Akron. YSU's wins have come over IUPUI, St. Bonaventure and Saint Francis (Pa.), with the latter two wins coming at the Boardman Tennis Center. YSU is 2-2 at the facility this year to date.
BGSU has seen YSU once this year already, as the Penguins competed at the BGSU Invitational in mid-September.
Following this weekend's match, the Falcons will begin the Mid-American Conference schedule. BGSU will head to the league's 'East Coast' for matches against Buffalo (March 25) and Akron (March 26) next weekend.
