Murfreesboro, Tenn. – Adrienne Dick hit a sixth-inning grand slam home run but it was not enough for the Bowling Green State University softball team to rally in a 7-5 loss to Middle Tennessee State Tuesday afternoon. Game two of a scheduled doubleheader was cancelled due to rain with Bowling Green leading 2-1 early.
Freshman Erin Greenwalt got the start for the Falcons and she cruised through the first two innings, giving up just one hit. But in the third, Middle Tennessee struck with four runs on three hits, getting help by a pair of walks and a hit batter.
Bowling Green tried to bounce back quickly as Paige Berger homered to lead off the fourth inning, her third blast of the season and 15th of her career. That shot cut the deficit to three at 4-1 but Middle Tennessee tacked on three more runs in the bottom half of the inning on a solo homer and a two-run double.
Trailing 7-1, Bowling Green rallied in the sixth. With nobody on and two outs, Andrea Arney was hit by a pitch and Missy Bowman and Katie Yoho followed with walks. Dick then blasted her grand slam for the first four-RBI game of her career to make it 7-5.
The Falcons had one last chance in the seventh but went down in order to end the comeback.
Middle Tennessee State improves to 5-7 with the win and Bowling Green falls to 2-10. The Falcons will play Appalachian State Wednesday at noon.
