Boxscore - Western Michigan 7, Bowling Green 0
Kalamazoo, Mich. – The Bowling Green softball team was held to just five hits as Western Michigan defeated the Falcons 7-0 Saturday afternoon in Mid-American Conference action.
Despite BGSU's struggled offensively, the game was close until late as Western Michigan scored six times in the final two innings to put the contest away.
The Broncos scored an unearned run in the bottom of the first with the help of three walks and a fielding error but Bowling Green wriggled out of the jam without allowing a big inning. The Falcons' best chance to tie the score came in the top of the fifth when Katie Yoho walked to open the frame. But Missy Bowman grounded into a double play to end the threat.
In the bottom of the fifth, Western Michigan essentially put the contest out of reach by scoring four runs, getting help from an error on the leadoff batter and putting together four hits. The Falcons put two runners on base in both the sixth and seventh innings but could not get the clutch hitting to break into the scoring column.
Rachel Proehl led Bowling Green by going 2-for-3. Yoho, Melissa West, and Lindsay Arney had a hit each.
Western Michigan improves to 15-24 overall and 9-4 in MAC play. The Falcons fall to 7-26 overall and 1-11 in conference action. The two teams will face off again Sunday, with a 1 p.m. central start time.
