Two Falcons In Top Ten After First Day At EKU Lady Colonel Classic

FIRST ROUND RESULTS (.pdf)
The Bowling Green State University women's golf team battled the elements on Saturday (April 9) at the Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) Lady Colonel Classic, and when play was called due to darkness, two Falcons found themselves near the top of the leaderboard.
Bailey Arnold, one of BGSU's two freshmen, started the day off on a very positive note. On her fourth hole, the par-five 11th, Arnold scored an eagle to jump to -2 overall. The eagle was one of only two in the entire first round. Arnold briefly led after shooting a birdie on the par-three 16th to close out her first nine and finished the round with a 74.
Arnold returned to the course for the second round and again birdied the 16th hole. She has four holes remaining in the second round, and she currently stands at +2 for the round. Arnold is +4 for the tournament and holds sole possession of fourth place, three shots behind the leader.
In the first round, Arnold tied her second-best round of the season. She earned her best score since a 70 at the Great Smokies Intercollegiate last September and her first sub-80 round since the BSU Cardinal Classic.
Senior co-captain Lauren Glew also found her way into the tournament's top-ten by the end of Saturday's play. In the first round, Glew birdied three holes in a seven-hole span and finished with a 78. Like Arnold, the first round total was Glew's lowest since last September, when she shot back-to-back 78s at the BSU Cardinal Classic.
Glew's second round has been even better. She birdied two more holes and has shot par on eight others. With four holes to play, Glew has a chance to post a career-best round. Her current best is a round of 74 from her freshman season; her best round in her senior campaign is a 76. At seven-over-par, Glew resides in a five-way tie for eighth place.
Like Arnold and Glew, Amy Ruthenberg completed one of her best days since last September. Ruthenberg played the first 11 holes of the day at three-over-par and finished the first round with an 80. In the second round, she registered her only birdie of the day on the par-four 17th hole. With three to play, Ruthenberg is at +9 for the round and +17 overall.
Paula DiFrancesco joins Ruthenberg at nine-over-par through 15 holes of the second round. She is attempting to better her score from the first round after posting an 84 over the first 18 holes.
Meanwhile, Kelsey Benson is also looking to post a better second round score. Benson struggled to an 86 to start Saturday's play. However, she shot par seven times in an eight-hole span during the second round and is eight-over-par for the round with four holes to play.
Competing as an individual, Marisa Glew withdrew from the tournament after a first-round score of 85.
Play at the Arlington Country Club, EKU's home course, was suspended for three hours due to rain. The delay split the first round and led to the suspension of the second round. The last few holes of the second round will be played beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday morning. The final 18 holes will begin shortly after the conclusion of the second round.
