BGSU opened the spring slate with a 1-1 draw at Indiana State, coached by former Falcon goalkeeping standout Erika (Flanders) True. Then, the Brown and Orange posted a 2-0 victory over Grand Valley State, the two-time defending NCAA Division II national champions.
The victory over GVSU began a streak of four consecutive wins, with the first three all by identical 2-0 results. Richards and Company downed Ohio Northern and Case Western Reserve, then posted a 5-1 win over Tiffin.
After a 1-0 loss at Valparaiso, the Falcons closed the schedule with a 6-1 win over a group of former Falcons in the team's annual Alumnae Game.
BGSU outscored the opposition by a 12-3 count in the six matches (not counting the Alumnae Game). Sophomore-to-be Tracy Togba led the way, scoring five of those 12 goals. Togba scored in every match except the Valpo contest, and added four more goals against the alums, for a total of nine goals in seven contests.
Rising senior Megan Amann had three goals against opposing schools, and added another marker vs. the alums. Rising sophomore Kaitlyn Tobin scored twice, while senior-to-be Alyssa Zuccaro and redshirt sophomore Jenny Fowler each had a goal. 'Z' added a goal against the alumnae squad.
The Falcons will begin the fall portion of the 2011 schedule on Friday, August 19, at Loyola (Ill.). The home portion of the schedule commences Sunday, August 28, vs. Detroit at Cochrane Field.
