Jamilah Ali
Pair of Future Falcons Have Impressive Seasons
May 18, 2011 | Gymnastics
Jamilah Ali and Gina Locigno, a pair of gymnasts that are scheduled to join the Falcon program this fall, recently had some impressive showings.
Ali, a native of Toms River, N.J., earned the National Junior Olympic N.I.T. Championship on vault and in the all-around. The freshman-to-be scored a 9.700 on vault to win the award. She combined her vault score with a 9.050 on bars (finished second in the meet), 9.575 on beam (second), 9.350 on floor (sixth) for a total of 37.675 in the all-around.
“Jamilah Ali is an absolute power house,” said BGSU head coach Kerrie Beach back in November when Ali committed to BGSU. “She will quickly be recognized for her ability on vault and floor, while also possessing skills on bars and beam. Her success in the state of New Jersey will translate well to the college level.”
Locigno, a native of Boca Raton, Fla., qualified for the Junior National Championships, hitting all four of her events. She scored a 9.300 on vault, 8.950 on bars, 9.150 on beam and 9.550 on floor.
“Gina Locigno is solid on all four events,” said Beach back in November. “She is definitely a strong uneven bar swinger. She comes from a great gym and a great coach, Gary Anderson. We look forward to adding her skills to our program.”
Both meets were held in Long Beach, Calif.
