Bowling Green State University women's basketball coach Curt Miller sat down with a few members of the print media recently to discuss a myriad of subjects. Grab a large cup of coffee and settle in for this interview -- roughly 40-minutes long -- as Miller wraps up the 2010-11 season, gives a detailed analysis of his thoughts on the returning players and newcomers for 2011-12, and even offers a few clues regarding next year's schedule.
The Falcons, as you know, had an overall record of 28-5 and a Mid-American Conference mark of 13-3. Miller and Company won the MAC Tournament title and advanced to the NCAA Championships for the fifth time in the last seven seasons. The Falcons say farewell to six stellar seniors (Chelsea Albert, Maggie Hennegan, Tracy Pontius, Lauren Prochaska, Jen Uhl and Kelly Zuercher) from the '10-11 team, but BGSU welcomes back nine letterwinners.
The list of returnees includes one rising senior (Jessica Slagle), two redshirt juniors (Maribeth Giese and Danielle Havel), three true juniors (Simone Eli, Allison Papenfuss and Chrissy Steffen) and three sophomores-to-be (Jillian Halfhill, Jill Stein and Noelle Yoder). Alexis Rogers also joins the active roster, and will be a redshirt sophomore on the 2011-12 squad. Rogers, a transfer from Duke University, sat out the 2010-11 season in accordance with NCAA transfer rules.
Miller and his staff -- associate head coach Jennifer Roos, assistant coaches Brandi Poole and Kevin Eckert and director of operations Monique Rosati -- will have five newcomers on the '11-12 roster. The incoming freshman class includes Deborah Hoekstra (East Lansing, Mich.), Kaila Hulls (Bloomington, Ind.), Jasmine Matthews (Matteson, Ill.), Shanique Ogle (Lorain, Ohio) and Logan Pastor (Uniontown, Ohio).
