Falcon Signees Getting It Done
June 14, 2011 | Women's Basketball
The Bowling Green State University women's basketball team had yet another successful season in 2010-11, going 28-5 overall, winning the Mid-American Conference's East Division title and capturing the MAC Tournament crown to advance to the NCAA Championships for the fifth time in seven years. And, BGSU's incoming freshmen have enjoyed success as well, in multiple sports.
Two of the future Falcons posted successful results in their respective state track and field championships. Shanique Ogle (Lorain, Ohio) picked up a top-three finish in the Ohio High School Athletic Association State Track Championship. Ogle was third in Division I in the shot put, with a throw of 44-06.00. She helped her Lorain H.S. team to a sixth-place finish in the D-I team standings.
In Michigan, Deborah Hoekstra (East Lansing, Mich.) earned all-state honors in a pair of track events. Hoekstra was eighth in the state in the 800 meters, and she helped the 1,600-meter relay team to a sixth-place state finish. Hoekstra ran the 800 in 2:21.02, and the relay team finished in 4:07.37.
On the hardwood, Jasmine Matthews (Matteson, Ill.) scored a team-high 16 points for the 2011 High School Girls All-Stars in the McLegends X basketball game at Thornton H.S. several weeks ago. Matthews made five three-point field goals in seven attempts in the game.
Kaila Hulls (Bloomington, Ind.) has played in multiple all-stars games over the last few months. Hulls had a game-high 18 points, including 14 in the first half, in the 23rd Annual North-South Classic in Vincennes, Ind., in April. She also participated in the Hoosiers Reunion All-Star Classic, and was a part of the Indiana All-Star Team that played the Kentucky All-Stars in a pair of games last weekend. Hulls drew the start in both games, a Friday (June 10) loss, 64-57, in Louisville, and a 69-56 victory on Saturday (June 11) in Indianapolis. She had 12 points in the latter game.
Logan Pastor (Uniontown, Ohio) played in the Stark-Summit All-Star game at Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio, in late March. In that game, she flirted with a triple-double, with eight points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists.
Hoekstra, Hulls, Matthews, Ogle and Pastor will be the first freshman class to play in BGSU's new Stroh Center, which will open in time for the 2011-12 season.
