Three Falcons Named Academic All-MAC; Six More Named Honorable Mention

Cleveland, Ohio – Lindsay Arney, Paige Berger, and Hannah Fulk were named to the 2011 Academic All-MAC Softball Team today, while six other Bowling Green players were named honorable mention. Andrea Arney, Melissa Bott, Missy Bowman, Zada Lines, Rachel Proehl, and Melissa West all were named to the list.
Bowling Green was one of four Mid-American Conference schools to have three players named to the list and only Eastern Michigan had more. The nine total players represented by Bowling Green shared league-high honors with Ohio.
In all, 23 players were selected to the Academic All-MAC Team, which is voted on by the league's faculty athletic representatives. To be nominated, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests. First year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible.
Lindsay Arney, a senior, carries a 3.95 GPA in biology. She was named Capital One Second Team Academic All-District after starting all 44 games for the Falcons, 41 in centerfield. She hit .209 with three stolen bases and had a team-high seven outfield assists.
Berger, a sophomore, has a 3.77 GPA in pre-early childhood education as well. She was named second team All-MAC after starting all 44 games at first base and leading the team with a .331 batting average to go with 11 homers and 33 RBI. Her 11 home runs tied for the second most in school history, behind only her own 12 home run season as a freshman.
Fulk, also a sophomore, has a 3.93 GPA in mathematics. She was named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Second Team All-Region and Capital One First Team Academic All-District after hitting .321 and starting all 44 games at shortstop. She scored a team-high 29 runs and led the squad with 10 doubles. Fulk also hit four home runs and was 7-for-7 on stolen base attempts.
Andrea Arney (3.89 GPA in pre-early childhood education), Bott (3.78 GPA in middle childhood education), Bowman (3.68 GPA in health science), Lines (3.65 in middle childhood education), Proehl (3.52 GPA in health science), and West (4.00 GPA in health science) were all part of the 43 member honorable mention team.
