The Bowling Green State University women's basketball program's annual golf outing took place on Sunday (Sept. 18), and the 2011 event could be categorized as nothing but an unqualified success.

The event, held at the Bowling Green Country Club, drew a total of 135 golfers -- the most to participate in the event during head coach Curt Miller's tenure at BGSU -- along with 45 additional fans/supporters that attended the evening social only. The golf portion of the event was a sellout.
"Our fantastic fans continue to amaze me with their tremendous support," said Miller. "I want to personally thank the Falcon faithful who were part of our record-breaking turnout at the annual golf outing. I also want to take time to thank those who contributed generous donations and sponsorships, helping to make this year's golf outing the most successful during our tenure.
"Our program certainly felt an excitement throughout the day regarding the new era in BGSU Women's Basketball."
All 15 student-athletes on the 2011-12 roster, along with the five members of the coaching staff, were on hand for the event as well. The day's activities included nine separate raffles, including a 50/50 raffle that was worth $568, a silent auction, and a dunk tank.
The golfers were treated to 18 holes plus a cart, lunch in the clubhouse and hot dogs and beverages on the course. The evening social, in addition to the numerous raffles and auction items, also included comments from Coach Miller and the announcement of the winners from the golf portion of the festivities.
Three winning teams -- a men's team, a women's team and a mixed group -- were recognized. The men's team included Art Eli, Marty Sutter, Rich Hillman, Tom Skees and Dan Skees.
The women's fivesome included Betsy Kenniston, Claire Batista, Deb Carcus, Lynn Colturi and Marlene Metti. The mixed team, which featured four Falcon women's basketball alumnae among the five team members, included Kate Achter, Sarah Clapper, Casey McDowell, Jen Uhl and Jamie Broadwell.
The awards for straightest drive went to Rob Treen (men) and Carey Nance (women), while longest-putt honors went to former Falcon women's golf great Megan Gormley.
The women's basketball team opens the 2011-12 season on Friday, Nov. 11, at Dayton. The home opener is scheduled for six days later -- Thursday, Nov. 17 -- against nationally-ranked Purdue at the brand-new Stroh Center. Season tickets are available, both in person at the Stroh Center Ticket Office and online here at BGSUFalcons.com.
