Falcons Place Three on Cross Country Academic All-MAC Teams

The Mid-American Conference has announced the members of its 2011 Cross Country Academic All-MAC teams, and three members of the Bowling Green State University men's team have been named to the squad.
Greg Black posted a season-best 8K time at the All-Ohio Championships (26:22.22) to place 39th. He ran a 27:01.2 time in the 8K at the 2011 MAC Championships. He also finished the 10K at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional in 33:34.2. Black placed 19th (16:41.80) at the Toledo Rocket Opener (5K). In the classroom, Black has a 3.906 grade point average as a mathematics major.
Josh Franek is a business administration major with a 3.903 GPA. He finished the 8K race at the 2011 MAC Championships with a season-best time of 26:05.1. He posted a time of 26:48.3 at the Bal State Invite. Franek placed 45th at the All-Ohio Championships (26:53.78) and ran the NCAA Great Lakes Regional 10K in 33:24.6. He placed 20th (16:44.60) at the Toledo Rocket Opener.
Jason Salyer finished first among all Falcons in all five of BGSU's races. He earned fifth place at the Toledo Rocket Opener with a 5K time of 15:46.50. He took his second top-ten result of season with a fourth place run at the Ball State Invite (25:49.7). Salyer placed 26th at the 2011 MAC Championships with a season-best time of 25:12.4. At the All-Ohio Championships, he finished 23rd in 25:57.45. In his final race, at the NCAA Great Lakes 10K, he ran the course in 31:43.6 to place 63rd. Salyer is an AYA education major with a 3.961 GPA.
Each of these three are making their first appearance on an Academic All-MAC team. Overall, the Falcons tied for second in the conference for most players on the team, with three. BGSU tied Miami (men's) and Eastern Michigan (women's). Four members of the EMU men's squad were named Academic All-MAC.
Four other Falcons were named to the 2011 Cross Country Academic Honor Roll for their excellence in the classroom. Receiving that honor were Perry Fraylick of the men's team and Saisha Gailliard, Alixe Korsnack and Taylor Stichter of the women's team.
Head coach Lou Snelling said, ""This award speaks to the fact these guys are true student-athletes. They have phenomenal GPA's because of the focus and effort they put into their course work. At the same time they train at a very high level, which is also a huge commitment. Our team goals always involve achieving at the highest level academically possible. I'm proud of them and look forward to seeing similar accomplishments in the future."
