The captain earns first-team honors from OCSA
Bowling Green State University women's soccer senior Alyssa Zuccaro has been named to the 2011 Academic All-Ohio Team by the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association (OCSA). The Falcons' 2011 team captain was named to the first team.
Zuccaro, who hails from Mentor, Ohio (Mentor H.S.), was named to the All-Mid-American Conference Second Team in 2011. One of three Falcons to start all 20 matches, she led the team with five goals and 10 points on the year.
Zuccaro played a total of 1772 minutes, ranking third among field players. She had a two-goal game at Buffalo (Sept. 23), scoring both BG markers in the Falcons' 2-1, come-from-behind victory in the MAC opener. Her first goal at UB came midway through the second period, and her second came with just 1:03 left in regulation.
Zuccaro also found the back of the net against Niagara (Sept. 4), heading home a diagonal ball from Madeline Wideman. And, 'Z' had goals at Youngstown State (Sept. 11) and vs. Eastern Michigan (Oct. 7). In both of those matches, she scored the Falcons' first goal in the second half of what turned out to be a 2-1 BG win.
Originally a walk-on, Zuccaro finished her career with a total of 50 points on 20 goals and 10 assists. She ended her BGSU tenure tied for third in career goals, and finished sixth on the points list. Zuccaro had 10 career goals in home matches and 10 away from home. She scored a total of 26 points (10 goals, six assists) at Cochrane Field, and had 24 points (10 goals, four assists) in road or neutral-site matches
In the classroom, Zuccaro is an adolescent/young adult/secondary education major, and has a cumulative grade-point average of 3.23 through the Fall 2011 semester.
