Another Award for Alexis: Rogers Named MAC Player of the Week

Bowling Green State University women's basketball standout Alexis Rogers has been named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday (Jan. 23) afternoon. Rogers, a redshirt sophomore, earns the honor for the second consecutive week and the third time this season.
The award is the third of the day for Rogers. On Monday morning, she was named the College Sports Madness National High-Major Women's Basketball Player of the Week, and also took home MAC P-O-W honors from that web site.
Rogers, a native of West Chester, Ohio, led the Falcons to a pair of wins in key MAC contests. The Brown and Orange won at Miami, 61-58, Thursday night (Jan. 19) before returning home and beginning cross-divisional play with Sunday's (Jan. 22) 70-54 victory over Eastern Michigan.
Rogers averaged a double-double on the week, with 23.0 points and 10.0 rebounds in the two wins. She had her fourth double-double in a five-game span, with 16 points and 11 rebounds at MU, in a battle of MAC unbeatens. Both teams had entered the game with 4-0 MAC records before BGSU came away with the 61-58 road win. In that game, Rogers also had two assists and three steals, and she was 8-of-9 from the free-throw line.
Then, against EMU, Rogers exploded for a game- and career-high 30 points as East Division-leading BG beat the West Division-leading Eagles. She was 11-of-17 from the field and a perfect 7-7 from the free-throw line, adding a pair of blocked shots and three steals.
In her first playing season at BGSU, Rogers is averaging 12.5 points and 8.4 rebounds per game, leading the team in boards and ranking second in scoring, and she has been putting up MAC-Player-of-the-Year-worthy numbers in league play. In the Falcons' six MAC games to date, Rogers is averaging 20.3 points and 10.5 rebounds per contest, topping BG in both categories. She is shooting 52.3% from the field and 74.4% from the stripe in league games, and has 21.8 ppg and 11.3 rpg in the Falcons' four MAC home games to date
Rogers earns this week's MAC Player-of-the-Week honor for the East Division. Yolanda Richardson of Toledo was named the MAC P-O-W in the West.
Rogers and the Falcons hit the road for a pair of games this week, beginning with a Wednesday (Jan. 25) contest at Ball State. Then, the Brown and Orange will take on Central Michigan Saturday afternoon (Jan. 28) in Mount Pleasant.
