Falcons face Chicago State, UIC this weekend
The Bowling Green State University tennis team, having won two matches on the road in as many tries, begins the home portion of the dual-match season this weekend. The Falcons of head coach Penny Dean face Chicago State University on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 4), before meeting UIC Sunday morning (Feb. 5).

Both matches will be held at the Perrysburg Tennis Center. Saturday's CSU contest is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m., while the UIC match starts at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday.
BGSU is 2-0 this season, having picked up victories at Duquesne and Cincinnati. Last weekend, the Brown and Orange downed the Bearcats, 6-1, in the Queen City.
The Falcons' seven players have combined for a winning percentage of 73.5% in singles play to date, having gone 72-26 this year. BGSU is 9-3 in singles in the dual matches, and the Falcons took five of the six singles matches at UC.
In doubles play, BG competitors are 37-12 (75.5%) this season to date, including a 5-1 mark in the two dual matches.
All seven student-athletes have won at least 63% of their singles matches this year, with five of the seven having reached double digits in wins. Junior co-captain Maddy Eccleston and sophomore Emily Reuland each are 13-3 in singles this season, while junior Mary Hill is 12-5. Both junior Katie Grubb and sophomore Nikki Chiricosta have 10 wins this year, while senior co-captain Jessica Easdale and junior Jade Johnson have won seven matches apiece.
Chiricosta has played at the top singles flight in each of the first two duals, with Eccleston at flight number two. Reuland and Hill are 2-0 at the third and fourth flights, respectively, while Easdale and Grubb each have played one match at the fifth flight and one at the sixth.
In doubles, Chiricosta and Hill have gone 2-0 at the top flight in dual matches. They are 8-2 this season and have a 25-7 record together at BGSU. Eccleston and Johnson, who teamed up to play at the second flight in each of the last two weekends, also are 2-0 in duals and 8-2 this season. Grubb and Reuland played at the third flight at both Duquesne and Cincinnati, and are 6-2 on the year.
Chicago State enters the weekend with a record of 1-2. The Cougars lost to DePaul and Milwaukee before picking up a 4-3 home win over Bradley last weekend. A season ago, CSU had a dual-match record of 9-16. The Cougars have a Friday match at Toledo before facing the Falcons the following afternoon.
UIC is 0-2 on the young season, having suffered losses to Wisconsin (5-2) and Marquette (4-3) on the road. The Flames also face Toledo Saturday, before taking on the Falcons Sunday. A year ago, UIC finished with an overall record of 18-5 and a 10-0 Horizon League mark.
The Flames have won 15-straight Horizon League titles and have made 13 consecutive trips to the NCAA Championships. UIC head coach Shannon Tully has a record of 100-0 in Horizon League matches during her career.
BGSU and Chicago State have met just once before on the court. CSU posted a 6-3 win over the Falcons in a neutral-site match in Milwaukee, Wis., during the 1992-93 season. The following year, the teams were scheduled to meet, but the match was canceled due to inclement weather.
The Falcons lead UIC, 10-8, in the all-time series between the teams, but the Flames have won the last three meetings. Last season, UIC eked out a narrow 4-3 victory in the Windy City (April 9, 2011). In the teams' last meeting in Northwest Ohio, the Flames recorded a 6-1 victory at the Perrysburg Tennis Center (Feb. 21, 2010). The teams have met in each of the last 15 seasons.
Following this weekend's action, the Falcons will prepare for a match at Michigan State University on Friday., Feb. 10. Then, BGSU returns to the PTC to face the University of Louisville on Feb. 18.
