Redshirt junior earns league honor for first time
Bowling Green State University women's soccer standout goalkeeper Becca Ison has been named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team, the league office announced Monday afternoon (Jan. 9). Ison earns the honor for the first time in her BGSU career to date.
Ison, a native of Kettering, Ohio (Archbishop Alter), started 19 of the Falcons' 20 matches in 2011, playing a total of 1732:04 in net. After entering the season with career totals of 18 saves and just over three 306 minutes played, the redshirt junior had an even 100 saves in 2011. Ison had a goals-against average of 1.61 and a saves percentage of .763.
Ison's save total was the eighth highest in a season in program history. She posted three shutouts, helping the Falcons to wins over Cleveland State (Sept. 2), IPFW (Sept. 16) and Northern Illinois (Oct. 23).
Ison's first-ever complete-game match came in the season opener at Loyola (Ill.) on Aug. 19, and she had a career-high 11 saves -- nearly double her previous career-best total -- in the Illinois State match two days later. Ison made nine saves against both Michigan State (Sept. 9) and Western Michigan (Oct. 21), and had eight stops on four occasions, including in each of BGSU's first two home games, vs. Detroit (Aug. 28) and Niagara (Sept. 4). She also made eight saves vs. Toledo (Sept. 30) and Miami (Oct. 27).
After just one year as the starter, Ison has a career total of 118 saves to rank fourth on the BGSU chart.
In the classroom, Ison had a 3.54 cumulative grade-point average as a adolescent/young adult/secondary education major at the time of nomination (prior to the end of the fall semester). Through the fall semester, Ison's cumulative GPA remains at 3.54.
The Academic All-MAC Team is the result of voting by the faculty athletics representatives at conference institutions. To qualify for nomination, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's contests.
