The Bowling Green State University women's golf team carded an opening round 315 and sit one shot off the lead after 18-holes of action at “The Preview” hosted by Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio.
“The Preview” features a field of 15 teams, including eight from the Mid-American Conference. Kent State is the only MAC women's golf program not represented in this tournament.
BGSU's 315 trails Akron by a single shot (314). Ball State is currently tied with the Orange and Brown, followed by Bucknell (320), Eastern Michigan (321) and Toledo (321) to round out the top five. Other MAC schools include Western Michigan (326), Ohio (329) and Northern Illinois (329).
Bailey Arnold is currently tied for fifth after carding a 77 (39-38) in weather conditions that featured everything but snow as the 85-player field battle high winds and wet conditions throughout the day's action. Akron's Hanna Ek has a three shot lead over the entire field after finishing with a 71 (34-37).
Lily Bartell and Patricia Holt each carded 78's on Monday afternoon and sit in a tied for 10th. Bartell went out in 41 and closed with a 37, while Holt was the opposite. She went out in 37 and carded a 41 in the final nine holes.
Also competing for BGSU were senior Amy Ruthenberg (43-39--82, T-31st) and sophomore Shelby Wilson (43-41--84, T-49th).
Freshman Hannah Lewis (43-40--83, T-40th) competed as an individual (scores could not count towards the team score).
Tomorrow's play is expected to begin at 9:30 a.m., weather permitting.
