Jenna Underwood Named to MAC's All-Freshman Team
November 01, 2012 | Women's Soccer
A native of Goodrich, Mich. (Goodrich H.S.), Underwood played in 14 matches, starting 13, in her initial season with the Falcons. She made her first collegiate start against Illinois State on Sept. 14, and was in the starting lineup for the rest of the season, playing all but 45 minutes the rest of the way.
Underwood had 74 saves on the season, along with one shutout and a goals-against average of 1.90. She had a save percentage of .747. She started all 11 MAC matches, and had 65 stops and a 1.83 GAA.
Underwood had five saves in four of her first five starts, including in her shutout of Kent State (Sept. 23). She had seven stops against Buffalo (Oct. 12), then posted double-digit save totals in each of the Falcons' final three matches of the season. She had a total of 34 stops in that three-game stretch.
Underwood made 12 saves, the highest total by a BGSU 'keeper in over four years, in the Ball State match (Oct. 19), and held the Cardinals off the scoreboard until the home team scored on a rebound in the 110th minute of play.
Then, she had 12 saves for the second-straight match, holding MAC regular-season champion Miami off the scoreboard for over 70 minutes (Oct. 21) in Oxford. She concluded the season with a total of 10 saves against Central Michigan in the final game of the year.
The All-MAC Teams and specialty awards are the results of voting by the league's 12 head coaches. The complete list of awards is attached, and can be found at the top of the page.
