2012 Season Results: Men | Women
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio. -- The Falcons wrapped up their 2012 cross country season this past weekend, with the men and women placing 28th and 17th, respectively, at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional. The women were the big surprise of the weekend, placing 16 spots higher than the 2011 NCAA Regionals (33), beating out MAC schools Akron (18th), Kent State (20th), Ball State (24th) and Western Michigan (27th) in the process. The Orange and Brown's 17th place finish marked the highest for the women since 2008, when they took 15th in West Lafayette, Ind. Redshirt freshman Jasmine Redman took the top spot for the Falcons, finishing 80th with a time of 21:59, just three seconds higher than her personal best.
The Falcon women were picked to finish last in the Mid-American Conference this season, ranking 12th in the preseason poll. The Orange and Brown made great strides in the 2012 season, finishing eighth at the MAC Championships, four spots higher than the previous year (12th). Bowling Green's eighth place finish marked their highest ranking since the 2010 MAC Championships, when they also took eighth. Redshirt freshman Andrea Alt took finished first for Bowling Green, finishing 23rd with a time of 22:21.0. Alt was the third freshman to finish at Beaver Island State Park, trailing only Sharon Morgan (13th) of Toledo, and Kayla Scott (16th) of Ohio.
Redshirt junior Abby Koch finished first for Bowling Green in three seperate meets, including the Mel Brodt Invitational (18:59.00 / 7th), the UB Stampede (18:03.9 / 3rd) and the Bradley Classic (21:40 / 17th). Freshman Emma Mirwaldt was the other Falcon to finish first for the Orange and Brown this season, taking 10th at the All-Ohio Champoinships with a time of 19:11.43.
For the men, senior Josh Franek paced the Falcons in four-straight meets, including the UB Stampede (26:00.7 / 17th), the All-Ohio Championships (26:27.11 / 43rd), the Bradley Classic (25:49 / 55th) and the MAC Championships (26:18.1 / 46th). Freshman Tim Jurick crossed the finish line first for the Orange and Brown on two seperate occasions, including the Mel Brodt Collegiate Opener (16:46.50 / 9th) and the NCAA Great Lakes Regional (35:05 / 170th). Another highlight for the men was the first place overall finish for Falcon senior Jason Salyer at the All-Ohio Championships, completing the 8K course in 25:13.30 as an unattached runner.
