Bowling Green, Ohio - With 10 days off between games, the Bowling Green men's basketball team spent some time this holiday season giving back to the local community. The team and coaching staff provided a free clinic to approximately 50 members of the Area 4 Special Olympics, which includes much of Northwest Ohio, Saturday morning.
"You can see the enjoyment on their faces," Deb Sidell, Special Olympics Area 4 Co-Director, said. "The friendships and relationships will last all season. To see them interact with the team is a really positive experience all-around. For them to be recognized as athletes is special."
The team and coaches spent approximately an hour running the Special Olympians through drills and cheering them on in the BGSU Student Recreation Center.
"They love basketball just like we do," BGSU senior guard Luke Kraus said. "We can see their dedication. It's great for us to be able to give back to kids that look up to us."
Bowling Green will be back in action Tuesday as the Falcons host one of basketball's perennial powers, Michigan State. BGSU hosts the Spartans in the Stroh Center at 7 p.m.
