Chrissy Steffen Named MAC Scholar-Athlete of Week

Steffen, a native of Carmel, Ind. (Carmel H.S.), played a major role in the Falcons' lone game last week, an impressive 79-69 victory over Wyoming on Sunday afternoon (Dec. 16). Steffen had a game-high 21 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the field. She was a perfect 3-of-3 from three-point land in the game, helping BGSU post season bests in both field-goal percentage (50.0%) and three-point accuracy (57.1%; 8-of-14).
Steffen had 15 of her 21 points in the opening half, including all three of her three-pointers. She went 6-of-7 from the floor in the first half, and hit back-to-back three-pointers just 29 seconds apart that gave the Falcons the lead for good. Wyoming entered the game with a record of 8-1, having lost only to Colorado.
On the season, Steffen is averaging a team-high 12.0 points per game, along with 4.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists per contest. She leads the Falcons with a field-goal percentage of 48.8%, and paces the team in both three-point FG pct. (39.1%) and three-pointers made (18).
In the classroom, Steffen has a 3.58 cumulative grade-point average as an adolescent/young adult/secondary education major.
The MAC Scholar-Athlete-of-the-Week honor is presented to a male and a female student-athlete who has a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, and who performed well during the previous week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletics representatives.
Steffen shared the Female S-A-O-W honor with Northern Illinois basketball sophomore Amanda Corral. This week's MAC Male S-A-O-W award went to Ohio wrestler Cody Walters.
The Falcons of head coach Jennifer Roos are 7-3 on the season, and BGSU has won four consecutive games. The Falcons are on the road for a Wednesday (Dec. 19) game against the University of Massachusetts.
