February 13, 2012 | General, Men's Basketball, Gymnastics
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Papa John's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are basketball player A'uston Calhoun and gymnast Dawn Christman.
Male Athlete of the Week
A'uston Calhoun, a junior from Southfield, Mich., averaged 23.5 points and 10.5 rebounds as BGSU beat Ball State and rival Toledo. Calhoun had 27 points and nine rebounds against Ball State, including 13 straight BGSU points after Ball State took a three-point second half lead. He followed that up with 20 points and 12 rebounds in a comeback win over Toledo. Calhoun shot 54 percent from the field on the week and dished out four assists.
Female Athlete of the Week
Dawn Christman, a senior from Pottstown, Pa., had arguably the best meet of her career, finishing first on the floor, second on the vault and fourth on the beam to help the Falcons score a season-best 193.975 against Northern Illinois. Her 9.900 score on the floor ranks as the fifth-best in school history and her career best. Her 9.625 on the beam is the eighth-best ever in school history and her 9.825 on the vault was her career-high. She is the first Falcon to break 9.900 on the floor in over seven years.
