Falcons Earn All-Academic Distinction For 11th Consecutive Year
February 13, 2012 | Women's Cross Country
NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Associationi released its annual list of All-Academic teams for the 2011 season on Monday (Feb. 13). For the 11th consecutive year, the Bowling Green State University women's cross country team is among the honored teams.
The Falcons have made academic success a program pillar, and BGSU's teams have made a tradition of meeting their classroom goals. The 2011 season was no exception. The 2011 Falcons earned a cumulative 3.39 grade point average, and that ranks in the top half among the 205 NCAA Division I schools who acheived All-Academic status.
As a whole, the Mid-American Conference is one of the most academically-successful leagues in the country. Ten of its 12 member schools made the cut for the 2011 season. That mark ties the MAC for third-most All-Academic schools, and the conference is tied with Conference USA for most among non-BCS leagues.
Bowling Green ranks fourth among all MAC schools in GPA, surpassing Akron, Buffalo, Kent State, Northern Illinois, Ohio and Western Michigan. Toledo and Ball State did not make the list.
To achieve USTFCCCA All-Academic status, a team must compile a minimum GPA of 3.0 and must send at least five runners to compete in the team's NCAA regional meet.
The entire USTFCCCA release can be found here.
The list of 2011 All-Academic men's teams will be released on Wednesday (Feb. 15).
