"We are extremely excited these eight young women have chosen to commit their futures to the BGSU women's soccer program," said Richards. "The bulk of the group bring attacking qualities to the program, which we anticipate helping out on the goal scoring side of things.
“Additionally, the arrival of two goalkeepers will offer both competition, and increased quality, in that position. We very much look forward to bringing this group of talented players to campus in August."
Cadel, a goalkeeper, currently attends Sir William Mulock Secondary School in Newmarket, Ontario, where she was named to the Honor Roll in each of her four years. Cadel earned the Female Athlete of the Year award as both a sophomore and a junior. She has played club soccer with Newmarket United, helping that team to Ontario Cup Championships in each of the last three years. Newmarket United earned the Bronze medal at the 2008 National Championship. Cadel also was a member of the Ontario Provincial squad in '08.
"The BGSU coaching staff is delighted to add Lauren to the roster," said Richards. "She is extremely brave, comfortable with the ball at her feet and possesses a very safe pair of hands. Lauren has the potential to be a great goalkeeper for the Falcons and will compete with Becca Ison and Jenna Underwood for the starting spot between the sticks."
Hendrix, a forward, is a senior at Northview H.S. in Sylvania, Ohio. She was a First-Team All-Ohio selection as both a junior and a senior, and was named to the All-Northern Lakes League Team in each of her four seasons. Hendrix was named to the all-region first team and was the District Player of the Year in her senior season. She has played club ball with the Toledo Celtics as well as with Pacesetter Soccer Club. With the latter program, she was under the tutelage of Director of Coaching Jimmy Walker, who also serves as a volunteer assistant on the BGSU coaching staff. Hendrix has a cumulative GPA of 3.9 and is a member of both the Spanish Club and Young Life.
“The staff is extremely excited to watch Courtney's strong offensive style of play, tremendous work-rate, and natural goal-scoring abilities impact the program,” said Richards.
Jarvis, a forward, is a senior at Novi H.S. A three-year starter, she has helped her team win a pair of state championships and one national crown. An all-district first-team choice, Jarvis has earned all-league honors as well. She was named the team's “Hardest Working” player in both 2010 and 2011, and also captured the Sportsmanship Award in her junior year. Academically she carries a 4.0 GPA and was named to the 2011 KLAA Scholar Athlete Honor roll. Jarvis plays club ball for Novi Michigan Jaguars, under Director of Coaching Paul Tinnion, and is a captain of that team.
“Jessica's ability to play as a target forward, together with her tremendous enthusiasm and positive attitude, will make her a great addition to the program,” said Richards.
Norris, a forward, is in her senior year at Sycamore H.S. She has earned all-conference and all-sectional honors, and has been named to the Honor Roll in all four years of high school. Norris was recipient of the Virginia N. Ovitz Memorial Award in 2010. Her senior season on the Sycamore girls soccer team will be played in the spring. Norris has played club soccer for the Rockford Raptors.
“Emma possesses great speed and vision when passing that allows her to be a danger to opposition defenses,” said Richards. “She is also naturally left-footed which adds another quality to her game. The Falcons coaching staff is very excited to bring Emma's athleticism to the forward line and expect her to be an integral part of the team.”
Parkinson, a midfielder/defender, is a senior at Pinnacle H.S. She and her teammates competed for a state championship in her freshman year, as she earned first-team all-region and second-team all-state honors. Her senior year is currently taking place, and the team is currently ranked second in the state. Parkinson is a member of the National Honor Society and has appeared on the Principals Honor List in all four of her years in high school. She has played club ball with the Sereno Club, where she has won three state championships and also has made an appearance in the regional finals. Recently, she began playing with the Del Sol Soccer Club.
“The BGSU coaching staff is very excited to add Haley to the team and feel she can contribute greatly as either a wide midfielder or an outside back,” said Richards.
Schmidt, a forward, is in her senior year at Hartland H.S., where she was an all-conference and all-region selection in each of her first three seasons, with her senior season yet to be played. She also earned scholar-athlete honors in each of those years, and was earned All-State Division One Honorable Mention. Schmidt will enter her senior season as a second-year captain. She plays club ball for Novi Michigan Jaguars, under Director of Coaching Paul Tinnion, and alongside fellow newcomer Jessica Jarvis.
“Lexie will add tremendous speed and an aggressive, attacking mindset to the BGSU forward line and she is expected to compete for playing time immediately,” said Richards.
Underwood, a goalkeeper, is a senior at Goodrich H.S. She earned all-league, all-conference and MHSAA All-District Team honors as both a sophomore and a junior, after being named to the all-district and all-league second team in her freshman season. Her senior season will be played in the spring of 2012. Underwood carries a 3.7 cumulative GPA and was nominated for the MHSAA Scholar Athlete Award. She played club soccer for the Michigan Hawks alongside rising BGSU sophomore Ashley Garr and fellow incoming freshman Demy Whitaker.
“The coaching staff is very excited to bring Jenna into the program,” said Richards. “She will bring great agility and calmness to the goalkeeper position, as well as increase the competition for the starting spot.”
Whitaker, a forward, is a senior at Notre Dame Academy. She earned all-city and all-district first-team honors in her junior year, and earned first-team all-state accolades as a senior. In the latter year, Whitaker also was named the Three Rivers Athletic Conference Player of the Year. She has played club soccer for the Michigan Hawks and the Pacesetter Soccer Club. She earned four-straight State Cup championships from 2007-10 for the former team, and was an ECNL National League Player in both '09 and '10.
“The Falcon coaching staff is very excited to add Demy's unique and aggressiveness style of play to the forward line,” said Richards. “She is able to link up play and score goals and is expected to make a strong impact on the program.”
Richards and his staff, assistant coach Kellie Evans and volunteer assistant coach Jimmy Walker, lose the services of four seniors – Megan Amann, Courtney Beinlich, Brittany Hopkins and Alyssa Zuccaro – from the 2011 team.
