QUICK HITS
• The Falcons clinched the outright East Division title with a 64-55 win over Miami Saturday afternoon (Feb. 25) at the Stroh Center ... BGSU went 34-of-41 at the line, shattering season highs in both free throws made and attempted, in the victory.
• The 2011-12 season marks the eighth consecutive year – and the 13th time in school history – that BGSU has won some sort of regular-season title ... BG earned six consecutive outright titles from 2005-10 ... last season, the Falcons did not have the league's best overall record, but the Brown and Orange won the East Division.
• With one game left in the regular season, the Falcons are tied at the top of the overall MAC standings ... BGSU and Eastern Michigan each are 13-2 in conference play, with Toledo a game back at 12-3 ... all three teams play on the road on Tuesday night ... in addition to the BGSU-at-KSU game, EMU is at Central Michigan and Toledo plays at Ball State.
• For the Falcons, the mission is clear: win and clinch the number-one seed ... that is easier said than done, of course, but a BG victory would guarantee the Brown and Orange the top seed for the league tourney ... even if EMU also wins on Tuesday, the Falcons win the tiebreaker by virtue of a 70-54 win over the Eagles in the teams' lone regular-season meeting.
• A BGSU loss, however, could drop the Falcons to the second or third seed ... if Toledo downs BSU, the Rockets would be tied with BG and would win the tiebreaker due to a 52-50 win over the Falcons in the teams' regular-season matchup ... in the event of a three-way tie (a UT win and losses by BGSU and EMU), the Eagles would earn the top seed, with a 2-1 record in games involving the tied teams ... EMU swept two meetings with UT ... in a three-way tie, the Falcons (1-1) would be the second seed, while the Rockets (1-2) would be the third seed.
• Under the new MAC Tournament format, the top-four seeds receive multiple byes in 2012 ... BGSU, EMU, UT and Miami have clinched those four seeds in some order ... all four teams have earned at least a double bye ... Miami is locked into the fourth seed ... two of the other three teams will earn triple byes.
• The MAC Tournament begins on Saturday (March 3) with first-round games at campus sites, and two second-round games will be played at Quicken Loans Arena on March 7 ... the third and fourth seeds will earn berths in the quarterfinals (March 8), with seeds one and two being placed directly into the semifinal round (March 9) ... put another way, a team seeded first or second will need to win only two MAC Tournament games to capture the title, while the third or fourth seed would need three wins ... any team seeded fifth through 12th will need to reel off five consecutive wins to capture the tourney crown ... seeding is based on conference winning percentage, regardless of division.
• This marks the eighth consecutive year BGSU has won at least 13 MAC games, a pretty impressive feat considering that teams play only 16 conference games in a season ... the Falcons are 112-15 in league regular-season games in that time.
• Saturday's win over Miami came on 'Senior Day' at the Stroh Center ... the Falcons are now a perfect 11-0 in 'Senior Day/Night' games during the Curt Miller Era, and BG has won 16 of the last 17 such contests.
• This year's two seniors, Jessica Slagle and Maribeth Giese, helped the Falcons go a perfect 8-0 in MAC home games this season ... BG went 31-1 in conference home contests during their careers, with the lone loss coming by a single point.
• Overall, the Falcons have a record of 55-3 in home games since Giese and Slagle arrived on campus ... BGSU has gone 14-1 at home in three of those seasons and went a perfect 13-0 in the other.
• The 2008-09 Falcons set the school record for home wins in a season, with 14 victories at venerable Anderson Arena ... last year's team matched that feat with a 14-1 record, and the '11-12 team has tied the school record once again, having won 14 of 15 games at the Stroh Center ... the lone home loss this season was a one-point setback to nationally-ranked Purdue.
• The Falcons have allowed the opponent to score as many as 70 points just three times in the last 61 games (since the start of 2010-11) ... and, BG won all three of those games ... BGSU has yet to allow as many as 70 points in a regulation game this season ... last year, the Falcons allowed 72 points at home vs. Akron (a 90-72 BG win) and vs. Central Michigan in the MAC Tournament (an 80-72 Falcon win).
• This season, CMU is the only team to reach 70 points against the Brown and Orange, and the Chippewas needed overtime to do so ... the teams were tied at 64-64 at the end of regulation (Jan. 28), before the Falcons went on to a 77-72 victory.
• BGSU has held the opponent to fewer than 60 points in 22 of this season's first 28 games, including in 13 of the 15 MAC games to date ... the Falcons have held the foes under 50 points on six occasions this year.
• At the other end of the court, BGSU is 12-0 this season when scoring at least 70 points ... the Falcons are 31-0 since the start of last season when reaching the 70-point mark, and BG is 76-1 when scoring 70 over the last three-plus years.
• The results have been good even if the Falcons can get to just 57 points this season ... BG is 23-0 when scoring at least 57 points, and the Falcons are 0-5 when the offense is held under that total ... BGSU is averaging 69.3 points per game in the 23 wins, and just 48.8 ppg in the five losses.
• The Falcons have an overall record of 51-10 since the start of the 2010-11 season ... one of those 10 losses came to Georgia Tech in the NCAA Championships ... of the nine regular-season setbacks, six have come by one or two points ... BGSU is 29-5 against MAC teams since the beginning of last season ... three of those five losses have been by a combined four points.
• Coach Miller and his staff are performing one of their top coaching jobs in their decade-plus at BGSU, having orchestrated this season's success with a very youthful squad ... nine players on the roster are either freshmen or sophomores ... the Falcons lost six players, including four starters, from a year ago ... that group of graduates combined for nearly 5,500 points, 2,400 rebounds and 1,000 assists in their BGSU careers.
• Miller and the Falcons went 11-21 in MAC play in his first two seasons at BGSU ... in the eight-plus seasons since that time, BGSU has gone 123-20 in MAC regular-season games.
• The Falcons have won 20 games in a season for the 17th time, the highest total of any MAC program ... BG has won at least 20 games in each of the last nine years, extending the program's MAC record for sustained success over so many straight seasons.
• Next month, the Stroh Center will host the first and second rounds of the 2012 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship ... the first-round games are set for Sunday, March 18, with the second-round contest scheduled for Tuesday, March 20 ... for much more information, or to order tickets, log on to the web at BGSUFalcons.com.
