Redshirt sophomore earns honor in her first playing season at BGSU
Bowling Green State University redshirt sophomore Alexis Rogers is one of 52 regional finalists for the 2012 Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division I Coaches' All-America Team. The announcement of the All-Region nominees was made late Thursday (March 15) by the WBCA office.

Rogers' selection marks the sixth time in as many seasons that a BGSU player earns the honor. Lauren Prochaska was one of the 52 finalists in each of the last three years (2009-11). Ali Mann was a regional finalist in 2007, while Kate Achter was recognized in '08.
The selection committee will review the 52 candidates and cut the list to 40 finalists on Monday, March 19. The 40 finalists will all be in the running for selection to the 10-member WBCA Division I Coaches' All-America Team.
Rogers, a native of West Chester, Ohio (Lakota West H.S.), was an All-Mid-American Conference First-Team selection in her first playing season with the Falcons. She averaged 12.3 points and 8.7 rebounds per game, leading the team in boards and ranking second in scoring.
In MAC games, Rogers led the Falcons in both scoring and rebounding, with 15.1 ppg and 9.6 rpg. She was the only player in the entire league to be ranked in the top five in both categories, as she was fourth in scoring and second in rebounding in conference play.
On the year, Rogers had a total of 10 double-doubles, the most by a BGSU player in over a decade. Eight of those double-doubles came in MAC play, and she had one more in the conference tournament in Cleveland. Rogers was named the MAC Player of the Week three times this season.
She tied for third on the team with 18 three-point field goals made, and shot .353 from long distance (18-of-51) to tie for the BGSU lead in that category. Rogers also deadlocked for the team lead in steals, with 1.8 per game.
The WBCA selection committee uses an equation to determine a fair number of nominees from each region. The number of Division I institutions in each region is divided by the number of Division I institutions overall to get a percentage for each region. The percentage is then multiplied by 52 (the total number of desired finalists) to get the number of finalists for each region.
The 52 All-Region Team members then go before the selection committee, which reduces the list to 40 finalists. These 40 finalists can come from any region. However, per a motion passed by the WBCA Board of Directors in 2008, the selection committee must select 12 finalists from Region 1 and six finalists from Region 4.
The 2012 WBCA Division I Coaches' All-America Team will be announced at 1:05 p.m. MT (3:05 p.m. ET) Saturday, March 31, during the NCAA's Super Saturday festivities at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colo.
The Falcons of head coach Curt Miller finished the 2011-12 season with an overall record of 24-7 and a MAC mark of 14-2. BGSU won the MAC's East Division, earning a divisional title for the eighth-straight season, and the Falcons captured the conference's outright regular-season crown for the seventh time in those eight years. BG advanced to national postseason play for the eighth year in a row, falling to VCU by a point in the first round of the WNIT Thursday night (March 15).
