Falcons return home to begin MAC play this weekend
The University of Kansas won at each of the top-five singles flights, closing out a 6-1 win over the Bowling Green State University tennis team on Monday (March 19). The non-conference match was held at the Darling Tennis Center in Las Vegas, Nev.
With the win, the Jayhawks improve to 9-5 in dual-match play this season. The Falcons fall to 4-5 on the year.
Senior co-captain Jessica Easdale earned BGSU's lone point, winning a tiebreaker after splitting her first two sets with Victoria Khanevskaya at the sixth flight. Easdale won the opening set by a 6-4 margin, then saw Khanevskaya capture the second set by a 7-6 final. The BG senior dropped a tiebreaker to give Khanevskaya that second set, but Easdale came right back to play another tiebreaker, this time earning a 10-8 win to take the match.
Junior Maddy Eccleston, a co-captain along with Easdale, teamed with sophomore Emily Reuland for a win at the top doubles flight. The duo downed Monica Pezzotti and Dylan Windom, as Eccleston and Reuland rallied back from a 4-0 deficit for the win.
Each of the other two doubles matches went to the Jayhawks by identical 8-4 scores. In singles play, KU won the top three singles contests in straight sets, while Windom outlasted junior Mary Hill in three sets at flight number four. After Hill won the opening set, Windom battled back for wins in the next two sets.
At the fifth flight, the Jayhawks' Claire Dreyer got past junior Katie Grubb, needing a tiebreaker to win the second set.
The Falcons return to Northwest Ohio to begin Mid-American Conference play this weekend. BGSU will host Northern Illinois University on Saturday (March 24), with the match scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. at Keefe Courts.
