LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- The Bowling Green State University men's golf team concluded its trip to Arkansas on Tuesday (March 27) with a final-round 315 and a 14th-place finish at the 2012 UALR-First Tee Collegiate Classic. The tournament was held at Little Rock's Chenal Country Club.
The Falcons ended the tournament with a 54-hole total of 928 after shooting rounds of 309 and 304 on Monday. The team finished three strokes behind 13th-place Western Kentucky and was within five strokes of both Columbia and Illinois State. BGSU ended the event 13 shots ahead of Arkansas State.
Southeastern Louisiana University won the event by 13 strokes after registering a two-day total of 887 (295-288-304). Sam Houston State finished second. Tournament host Arkansas-Little Rock placed fourth overall.
Individually, Drew Preston led all Falcon golfers by carding a 228 (75-72-81) during the tournament's three rounds. That score earned a tie for 29th place in the field of 90 players.
Charlie Olson shot a 77 on Tuesday to finish tied for 43rd with a tournament total of 232 (76-79-77). Parker Hewit and Wes Gates each tied for 48th place after shooting 234. Hewit had individual rounds of 81, 77 and 76, while Gates carded a 77, 76 and 81.
Torey Brummett also competed for BGSU, and he ended the event at 262 (91-84-87).
The Falcons will compete next at State College, Pa. in the 2012 Rutherford Intercollegiate. That tournament takes place in just shy of two weeks, on Saturday and Sunday, April 7th and 8th.
