Falcons Complete Toledo Collegiate Challenge in Seventh Place

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University track and field team scored 42 points and finished seventh overall at the 2012 Toledo Collegiate Challenge on Saturday (March 31). Eight different athletes scored points for the Falcons, as the team competed in its second meet of the outdoor season.
Ashley Harris led the Falcons with eight points. She placed fifth in both the hammer throw (46.98 meters) and shot put (13.10m) for four points in each event. She also led the Falcons with an 11th place finish in the discus, thanks to a toss of 35.89 meters.
Anna Pomento also scored for the Falcons in the throwing events; she had a throw of 11.30 meters in the shot put, which earned eighth place. Pomento also competed in the discus event and placed 17th after a throw of 34.62 meters.
Two Falcons placed highly in the high jump. Emily Gerken and Krystin Reiser both posted marks of 1.58 meters. Gerken's jump earned a fourth place finish and five points, while Reiser won two points for a seventh-place jump.
On the track side of the meet, Felicia Jefferson and Allorian Horne took top-eight finishes in two events. Jefferson ran the 400 meter dash in 59.72 seconds to place fifth, then became BGSU's best runner in the 200 meter dash with a sixth-place run of 25.98 seconds. Horne finished eighth in the 200 meter race (26.12 seconds) and completed the 100 meter dash in 12.69 seconds for sixth place.
Allison Weimer posted the Falcons' best finish by place when she ran the 400 meter dash in 58.81 seconds. That time earned third place.
Natalie Sommerville rounded out the individual scoring for BGSU when she earned a point for an eighth place showing in the 400 meter hurdles (1:05.29). Sommerville also competed in the 100 meter hurdles, as she finished in 16.44 seconds for 14th place.
BGSU earned a total of eight points in the meet's two relay events. The Falcons finished third in the 4x100 meter relay (0:48.30) and eighth in the 4x400 meter relay (4:08.97).
Bowling Green's next challenge will be next Friday and Saturday in East Lansing, Mich., when the Falcons take part in the Spartan Invitational on April 6th and 7th.
