TOLEDO, Ohio. -- The Bowling Green State University softball team defeated Toledo Saturday afternoon, dropping the Rockets by a score of 7-1. Junior Hannah Fulk led the Falcons with three RBI, while senior Melissa West finished the day 2-for-3 at the plate, recording an RBI and a run.
Freshman Jamie Kertes recorded three strikeouts, and allowed just three hits in the win, surrendering just one run in 4.0 innings of work. Freshman Paris Imholz picked up the save, recording two strikeouts and allowing just one hit in the final two innings.
The bats were silent for both teams until midway through the contest, when Toledo scored to take the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Toledo junior Lindsay Tobias belted her team-leading fourth home run of the season, giving the Rockets the 1-0 lead.
The Falcons responded in the top of the fifth, rallying from behind to score three runs on three hits in the frame.
Sophomore Erika Stratton walked to start off the inning before a West single, putting runners at first and second for junior Adrienne Dick. West was pulled in favor of pinch runner Emily McClelland, before Dick singled, moving both runners over. A Toledo error on the play allowed Stratton to score from third, and moved Dick to second base. Fulk then came to the plate and brought home the second Falcon run of the inning, scoring a runner from third on a sacrifice fly. A second Toledo fielding error in the following at bat brought home the third Falcon run of the game, capping off the scoring run for Bowling Green in the inning.
Bowling Green poured on the offense in the top of the sixth, scoring three runs on three hits in the frame.
West came to the plate with runners at first and second, and belted a single to right center for the fourth Falcon run of the day. Fulk followed, and crushed a two-run single up the middle to give Bowling Green the 6-1 advantage.
The Falcons scored a final run in the top of the seventh, securing the 7-1 victory for the Orange and Brown.
