Jermaine Truax To Receive Prestigious Rising Star Award
May 21, 2012 | General

“We take rules compliance seriously at BGSU,” University President Mary Ellen Mazey said. “We are proud of the work that our athletics compliance staff, led by Jermaine, is doing. This award is another example of how the athletics department is working to develop well-rounded student-athletes.”
The “Rising Star Award” is designed to recognize young compliance professionals who are considered to be emerging leaders within the compliance profession and is given out to only one individual each year. Since arriving at BGSU in the summer of 2010, Truax has been integral to the senior administration staff.
“We are thrilled that Jermaine has been recognized nationally by his peers,” Director of Athletics Greg Christopher said. “NAAC is affirming what those of us within BGSU Athletics already know – that Jermaine is a terrific athletics administrator and that he has a bright future. He works tirelessly for our coaches and student-athletes and is an important part of our team.”
His commitment to rules education and the creative ways he interacts with the student-athletes and staff on legislative issues has been refreshing and helps everyone gain a better understanding of the rules in a user-friendly manner. Truax came to Bowling Green after serving as the director of compliance at St. Bonaventure.
At BGSU, Truax is primarily responsible for monitoring all areas of compliance with NCAA, Mid-American Conference, and Central Collegiate Hockey Association rules and regulations. After receiving his bachelors degree in health and physical education from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, Truax received his masters degree in sport management from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania in July of 2008. During his studies, Truax served as an intern for the San Jose Sabercats and the Buffalo Bills.
“I count on Jermaine's depth of knowledge and understanding of the complex rules and interpretations we are asked to give on an almost daily basis,” Mark Shook, Associate Athletics Director for Compliance and Student-Athlete Services, said. “His attention to detail and his positive mannerisms have earned him the respect of those in the athletics department and across our campus.”
