On May 11-12 three gymnasts who will be joining the Bowling Green State University gymnastics team next season competed in the 2012 USA Gymnastics Junior Olympic National Championships, held in Hampton, Va.
“I am so pleased to see our future Falcons competing well at the 2012 Junior Olympic National Championships, the pinnacle competition for Junior Olympic gymnasts," said BGSU head coach Kerrie Beach. "Both Katrina and Caroline did an outstanding job in the Senior “C” age group and showed that they will bring depth to a variety of line-ups during the 2013 season. Alyssa really hit her events in the Senior “B” age group and it was an absolute thrill to see her tie for the win on floor exercise and make the awards podium for her all-around performance. These three athletes all have fantastic uneven bar routines, an event we struggled on during the 2012 season. There is no doubt that we are gaining excellence on bars and on the other three events as well.”
Alyssa Nocella tied for first with a 9.700 to become the co-national floor champion and finished eighth in the all-around. She added a pair of 17th place finishes on vault and beam and finished 14th on bars. A total of 56 gymnasts competed in Nocella's age group.
Katrina Carpenter finished 38th in the all around, 27th on vault, 28th on bars, and 21st on floor: Carpenter competed against 57 gymnasts.
Caroline Ellingboe finished 27th in the all around, 14th on bars and 22nd on beam. Like Carpenter, Ellingboe competed against 57 gymnast.
