Former Falcons Continue Professional Baseball Seasons
August 06, 2012 | Baseball
As the dog days of August are upon us, the professional baseball seasons are heating up. As teams continue jockeying for playoff positions, six former Falcons are currently playing professional ball.
Burke Badenhop and the Tampa Bay Rays continue to fight for a playoff spot in the American League East. They currently sit 7.5 games back of the New York Yankees, at 56-52. The Rays are just two games out of a wild card spot, however. Badenhop continues to have a strong season pitching in relief for the Rays. On the season he has a record of 1-2, with an ERA of 3.21. He has appeared in 49 games, spanning 47.2 innings. He has struck out 36 batters, while allowing just 11 walks. Over his last six outings, Badenhop has been especially dominate, pitching 8.1 innings while allowing just one earned run. He has struck out eight batters in that time as well.
Nolan Reimold continues his recovery after undergoing season-ending surgery on June 25. The surgery repaired a bulging disk in his neck, an injury that has had him sidelined since April 30.
Jon Berti has played 29 games with class-A Dunedin, after starting the year in Lansing. Berti has scored 19 runs, with four doubles and three triples in his short time as a Dunedin Blue Jay thus far. In his 89 games played, he has stolen 31 bases. Berti was one of the many Lansing Lugnuts named to the Midwest League All-Star game, as well.
Brennan Smith recently came back from the disabled list, which he had been on since June 15. In his two outings since returning to the West Michigan Whitecaps, Smith has pitched six innings, allowing just three hits, and striking out five. On the season, Smith is 1-4 with an ERA of 3.90.
Ross Gerdeman currently leads the Missoula Osprey pitching staff in innings pitched. He has pitched 55.1 innings in his nine starts. Gerdeman has a record of 3-2 with a 4.39 ERA.
Charles Wooten has appeared in 13 games for the London Rippers of the Frontier League. He has struck out seven batters, while posting a 1-1 record. The Rippers are just 25-35 in the Frontier League East Division, 14 games out of a playoff spot.
