Eccleston, Hill Named Team Captains for 2012-13

““Mary and Maddy will be great captains,” said Dean. “They are both outstanding student-athletes who by example and encouragement will lead the BG tennis team to new heights.
“Mary and Maddy are respected by every player on the Team and both coaches for their leadership qualities, work ethic, and tennis achievements. They are part of a great group of seniors, including Katie Grubb and Jade Johnson, who will play a huge role in the leadership aspect of the BGSU tennis team this year.”
Eccleston, a native of Toledo, Ohio (St. Ursula Academy), is a co-captain for the second consecutive year. She enters her senior season with a career winning percentage of .655, and she is ranked among the top 20 on all three BGSU career wins lists. Eccleston's overall record of 127-67 with the Falcons includes a 58-39 singles record and a stellar 69-28 (.711) doubles mark. She ranks 11th on the BG career list for doubles wins, is tied for 14th in school history in overall victories and currently sits 18th on the career singles wins list.
Hill, who hails from Munster, Ind. (Munster), has 93 wins in her first two seasons with the Falcons. A transfer from Coastal Carolina University, she has won at least 40 matches in each of her first three years. After posting a 41-18 record with the Chanticleers as a freshman, Hill was 51-20 overall for the Falcons two years ago, posting the fourth-highest victory total in school history. She was 42-26 last season, ranking third on the team in wins.
Hill, after only two years, is 30th in BGSU history in career singles wins, and is tied for 24th on the school's doubles wins list. Her 93-46 record with the Falcons includes a 44-26 singles record and a stellar doubles mark of 49-20 (.710). Last season, Hill earned honorable mention on the Academic All-MAC Team. In her three collegiate seasons (including her freshman year at CCU), Hill has an overall mark of 134-64 (65-35 singles, 69-29 doubles).
In the classroom, Eccleston is an applied health science major with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.947. Hill, a community health major, has a 3.388 cumulative GPA>
The Falcons open the 2012-13 season this weekend, as several members of the team will head to Dublin, Ohio, for the Muirfield Collegiate Tennis Invitational. The three-day tournament runs from Friday through Sunday (Sept. 14-16) at The Country Club in Dublin.
