The Bowling Green State University women's golf team got the 2012-13 season off with a bang after recording a 613 (312-301) on day one of the Redbird Invitational to sit in second-place with 18 holes remaining.
Fellow Mid-American Conference member and arch-rival, Toledo, leads the tournament by three shots with a 36-hole score of 610 (303-307). Illinois State, the host of the 54-hole event is third with a score of 615 (300-315).
Junior Bailey Arnold, who is the defending champion of the Redbird Invitational, is in eighth after 36 holes with a score of 152 (76-76). She is seven shots off the lead, trailing Illinois State's Katie Jean (145).
Lily Bartell, a freshman competing in her first tournament with the Falcons, carded a 79 in her opening round, but recovered nicely in round two with a 74. The freshman is tied for 13th with a 153.
Shelby Wilson, like Bartell improved dramatically from the first two second round. The sophomore fired a 79 in round one and improved by four shot in the second round (75). Wilson is tied for 17th with a 154.
Also competing for the Orange and Brown were freshman Hannah Lewis (78-78—156) and sophomore Patricia Holt (80-76—156). Both are tied for 22nd.
The third and final round will begin on Sunday morning.
