Gymnastics Fourth in MAC Preseason Poll
January 03, 2013 | Gymnastics
Cleveland, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University gymnastics team ranks fourth in the Mid-American Conference, according to the preseason poll voted on by the league's head coaches.
The Falcons finished in a tie for fifth at last year's MAC Championships, but qualified a school-record four gymnasts to NCAA regionals, including two freshmen. Jamilah Ali, who qualified to regionals as a balance beam specialist, was named MAC Freshman of the Year - only the third gymnast in BGSU history to earn the honor.
Kent State was selected as the No. 1 team, along with the team most likely to win the 2013 MAC Championship. Defending MAC Champion Central Michigan was picked third, with Western Michigan taking the No. 2 spot. Northern Illinois, Ball State and Eastern Michigan rounded out the poll.
The Falcons open the season on Saturday as they host the Ohio State Buckeyes in Anderson Arena and face their first conference opponent, Northern Illinois, on Jan. 19 in Dekalb, Ill.
