Bowling Green, Ohio – Chauncey Orr scored 16 points and Craig Sealey added a season-high 10 points but the Bowling Green men's basketball team lost to Mid-American Conference leader Akron Wednesday night in the Stroh Center, 68-55.
Orr made 7-of-12 shots and Sealey was 3-of-4 but the rest of the Falcons made just 7-for-35 shots as the Zips pulled away in the second half. A'uston Calhoun did have his third double-double of the season, ending with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Bowling Green shot just 19 percent from the field in the first half and trailed 28-17 at the break, but the Falcons did cut into the lead early in the second. Orr and Jordon Crawford made back-to-back lay-ups as Bowling Green got within seven at 35-28. The two teams took shots at each other for the next few minutes until Richaun Holmes made a pair of free-throws with 12:39 left to make it 42-35.
From there, Akron used a quick 8-0 run, highlighted by Reggie McAdams and Jake Kretzer three-pointers to build a 15-point bulge at 50-35. The Zips eventually pushed the lead to 20 points before a seven-point run in which Sealey and Spencer Parker did all the scoring cut the final deficit to 13.
Sealey added three rebounds, a block, a steal and an assist in his 19 minutes. Crawford handed out five assists and three steals, but finished with just five points. For the game, Bowling Green shot 33 percent from the floor, while Akron was 48 percent, including 57 percent in the second half. The Zips outrebounded Bowling Green 40-32 and both teams had 12 turnovers.
Akron improves to 16-4 with the win and 7-0 in MAC play. Bowling Green falls to 7-13 overall and 2-5 in the conference. The Falcons will stay home to host Ball State Saturday at 2 p.m. BGSU Athletics Hall of Famer Anthony Stacey will be recognized at halftime as the newest inductee into the Cast of Honor. Also, Freddie and Frieda's beheading will take place during the game.
