Falcons In Ninth Place After Second Day of OBX Invitational

Bowling Green fired a 289 on their second day at Kilmarlic Golf Course, which was a 10-stroke improvement as a team.

POWELLS POINT, N.C. – The Bowling Green State University men's golf team completed the second round of the 4th annual Outerbanks Invitational on Monday afternoon (Oct. 21), seeing a 10-stroke improvement with a team score of 289. The Falcons have carded a 36-hole total of 588 and currently sit tied for ninth place. The University of Hartford is currently leading the field of 18 teams with a score of
567.
The field remains tight for the final round as the each team in the top 10 are all within 21 shots or less. Elon (569), Marshall (570), VCU (572) and Radford (573) all sit within five strokes or less for the lead, while Bowling Green remains in striking distance, trailing by a respectable 21 strokes.
The Orange and Brown sent the same five competitors back onto the par-71, 6,535 yard Kilmarlic Golf Course as the Falcons saw four golfers improve on the second day of the 54-hole event.
Head coach Kevin Farrell showcased a lineup of Joe Cooper, Chris Melvin, Jose Narro, Brett Rinker and Ryan Triller. Each player shot in the 70's for the second consecutive day.
Melvin, who fired a 73 (+2) on the first day, carded a 1-under-par 70 on the second day. The three stroke improvement has Melvin sitting tied for 12th place overall with a 36-hole total of 143.
Rinker, who led the Falcons yesterday with an even-par 71, shot a second round total of 73 (+2). Rinker has carded a 36-hole total of 144, placing him in tied for 18th overall in a field of 93 players.
Also competing for Bowling Green was the righty from Street, MD. Triller, who came into the week averaging 74.56 strokes, had the largest impact on the day for the Orange and Brown. After finishing the first round with a 6-over 77, Triller fired a 2-over-par 72 to give him a 36-hole total of 149.
Narro and Cooper rounded out the competitors for the Falcons. Narro saw a four-stroke improvement shooting a 3-over-par 74 after an opening round 78. Narro has totaled a 152 in his first 36 holes.
Meanwhile, Cooper also saw improvement on his second day of action, firing a 4-over-par 75. Cooper has carded a 36-hole score of 153 heading into the final 18 holes.
The final round of the 54-hole event will be played tomorrow.
