Falcons Ready For Big Weekend On The Road
October 30, 2013 | Women's Swimming & Diving
BGSU will swim at Miami and at Xavier this weekend
The Bowling Green State University swimming team will take to the road for two meets this weekend, as they travel to Miami and Xavier. On Friday, the Falcons take on the RedHawks at 4:00 p.m. Saturday's meet at Xavier will begin at 12:00 p.m.
Â
Miami is 2-1 on the season in dual meets, as they defeated Akron and Xavier in the past two meets. The RedHawks are ranked 47th in this week's College Swimming News Poll.
Â
Saturday's meet against Xavier will be the Musketeers sixth meet of the season already. It will be their first meet at home this season.
Â
"This will be another interesting weekend for us with having back-to-back competitions at two different schools," head coach Petra Martin said. "But, this is something that we need to do in order to prepare for the MAC and NCAA Championships."
Â
The Falcons are coming off their first dual meet of the season last weekend, as they dropped a meet to Eastern Michigan. EMU is ranked 50th in the first College Swimming News Poll. Freshman Victoria Griffin impressed in last Saturday's meet, as she won the 100 and 200 freestyle events. She also led off the 400 relay team that finished first, and swam in the 50 free. The Falcons won seven of 14 swimming events against the Eagles.
Â
"We are looking to get more racing experience for the freshmen and continue getting better as a group under more pressure and tougher road conditions," Martin continued. "We will be mixing up some of the events to go with a little bit of a more challenging event lineup, especially for our distance and mid-distance groups. It will be a fun weekend and we are excited for it."
Â
Last season, Miami won the MAC Championships, while the Falcons finished third. The RedHawks were picked to win the 2014 Championships in the Preseason Coaches' Poll, while the Falcons were picked second.
