Joplin, Hoekstra Named Pizza Hut Athletes Of The Week

Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Pizza Hut Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are football player Shaun Joplin and women's basketball player Deb Hoekstra.
Male Athlete of the Week
Shaun Joplin, a senior from Sylvania, Ohio, caught six passes for a career-high 149 yards and a touchdown as BGSU Football clinched a spot in the MAC Championship with a 24-7 win over Buffalo. Joplin had five of his six catches in the second half for 139 yards as Bowling Green overcame a 7-3 halftime deficit. His 23-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter gave BGSU a 10-7 lead and his 62-yarder in the fourth quarter set up the final score of the game.
Female Athlete of the Week
Deborah Hoekstra, a junior from East Lansing, Mich., made 7-of-8 shots from the field en route to a career-high 18 points as BGSU women's basketball improved to 7-1 with a 71-48 win over Monmouth Sunday. She was 3-of-4 from three-point range and set a career high for minutes played with 29. She added two steals and was BGSU's Player of the Game in the Basketball Hall of Fame Classic.
