Head coach Chris Bergeron took some time on Tuesday afternoon (Dec. 29) to meet with the media. His team is currently 9-9-4 overall and 6-6-2 in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA). The Falcons will begin the new year on the road (Jan. 3-4), taking on the Chargers of Alabama-Huntsville at the Von Braun Center. Bowling Green holds a 8-3-1 record against UAH all-time, and is 3-2 against the Chargers on the road in five meetings away from the BGSU Ice Arena. The weekend series will be the final regular season matchup between the two teams. Below is a video of Bergeron's press conference.
About Alabama-Huntsville
The Chargers are located in Huntsville, Alab., and play their home games at Propst Arena at the Von Braun Center. UAH named Mike Corbett as the program's sixth head hockey coach as the team joined the Western Collegiate Hockey Association for the 2013-14 season. UAH currently sits in last place in the WCHA with a 1-19-0 record with their only victory coming against Bowling Green in a 4-3 overtime victory on Dec. 7.

The weekend series between the Falcons and Chargers will mark the 13th and 14th time these two teams will play each other. Bowling Green holds an 8-3-1 all-time record against UAH. The Orange and Brown own a 5-1-1 record at the BGSU Ice Arena and are 3-2 against UAH on the road.
Weekend Review (Three Rivers Classic)
Game 1: Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Bowling Green State University ice hockey team defeated Robert Morris University in the Consolation tilt at the Three Rivers Classic on Saturday night (Dec. 28), by a score of 3-2. Playing at the CONSOL Energy Center, the Falcons saw three different skaters score goals, while freshman goaltender Tomas Sholl (3-7-0) turned away 20-of-22 on the night.
Game 2: Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Bowling Green State University ice hockey team lost to 7th-ranked Boston College in a semifinal matchup at the second annual Three Rivers Classic on Friday night (Dec. 27), losing to the Eagles by a score of 5-0. Playing at the CONSOL Energy Center, the Falcons failed to score a goal throughout the night, while Tommy Burke turned away 33-of-38 shots.

At Von Braun Center (6600) this weekend, Alabama Huntsville (1-19-0, 1-11-0 WCHA) skates against Bowling Green (9-9-4, 6-6-2 WCHA) in a pair of 7:07 pm CT conference games. The Chargers and Falcons opened their four-game league season series a month ago in Bowling Green, with host Bowling Green claiming a 3-0 victory in game one on Dec. 6 before Alabama Huntsville notched their first-ever WCHA win on Dec. 7 with a 4-3 overtime triumph.
WCHA In The Polls
After being idle over the holidays, Ferris State University remained second in the latest United States College Hockey Online (USCHO) National Poll with a 14-2-3 overall record, after the poll was released Monday afternoon (Dec. 30). The Bulldogs are in first place in the conference with a 10-0-2 conference record, and is currently owns the nations longest win unbeaten streak with a 12-0-3 record in 15 games. Lake Superior State also remained in the top 20, sitting at 18th with a 10-7-1 overall record. Minnesota State, who was the preseason coaches' poll favorite, also received votes (57) in the latest poll.
Jerry York Reunion
On Friday night, The Falcons took the ice against former Bowling Green head coach Jerry York, who coached BGSU for 15 seasons and amassed a 342-248-31 records during that time. York not only helped the Falcons win their first NCAA Championship in 1984, but he also clinched four CCHA Championships and coached Bowling Green into the NCAA Tournament on six occasions.
Pittsburgh Penguins Ties
The Three Rivers Classic was played at the CONSOL Energy Center, home of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Dan Bylsma, who is head coach for the Penguins, played at Bowling Green from 1988-92, compiling 37 goals and 50 assists in 157 games. Bylsma's assistant coach Todd Reirden also played at BGSU. In fact, Reirden and Bylsma were teammates for two seasons (1990-92). Reirden amassed 24 goals and 52 assists in 140 games in his Falcon career.
Falcons Return To Conference Play
This weekend's series marks Bowling Green's 15th and 16th WCHA conference games of the 2013-14 season, taking on Alabama-Huntsville. It will mark the second time these two teams will play each other in less than a month. BGSU and UAH spilt a pair of league games on Dec. 6-7 at the BGSU Ice Arena. The Orange and Brown are currently tied with Bemidji State for third place with 14 points.
Falcons Against The Rest
Bowling Green has played nine games against a ranked opponent so far this season, coming away with a 1-6-2 record. All nine games have been on the road or on neutral ice, as the Falcons have averaged 2.22 goals per game, while allowing 3.55 goals to nationally ranked opponents. Meanwhile, BG has gone 8-3-2 against non-ranked opponents, averaging 3.15 goals and only allowing an impressive 1.30 goals.
Season Debuts
Seniors Jake Sloat and Ryan Viselli both made their 2013-14 debuts against Robert Morris on Saturday night (Dec. 28). It marked the first time since March 17, 2012 Sloat has played in a game. Viselli, who played in 13 games a season ago tallying one goal and seven assists, skated for the first time since Dec. 8, 2012.
Mohler On The Board
Brett Mohler tallied his first point of the 2013-14 campaign with the first goal of the game against Robert Morris at the 15:29 mark in the opening period on Saturday night. Mohler received a sweet no-look backhanded pass from sophomore Brent Tate behind the goal line and put the puck into the back of the net. It marked Mohler's first point since recording an assist in the Falcons' 4-3 loss to #12 Notre Dame on March 16, 2013.
Williamson Joins 60-point Club
Bryce Williamson recorded his team-leading ninth goal of the season on Saturday night. On the year, Williamson has nine goals and nine assists for 18 points, which is one point shy of tying his career-best (19 points in 2012-13). With his goal last Saturday, Williamson became the third Falcon to reach the 60-point plateau on the season, joining Dan DeSalvo (66) and Cam Wojtala (62). The senior forward now has 35-25=60 in his Falcon career, and currently sits fourth on the team trailing only Dan DeSalvo (66), Ryan Carpenter (63) and Cam Wojtala (62).
Dufour With Four
Rookie forward Kevin Dufour tallied his fourth goal of the season for the Orange and Brown. On the year, Dufour has four goals and five assists in 20 games with a +4 on-ice rating. The Falcons three rookie forwards each have four goals on the year. In all, the freshman have accounted for 13 of the team's 64 goals.
Sophomore Class
The Falcons sophomore class accounted for two of the three assists over the weekend at the Three Rivers Classic. On the year, the sophomore class has tallied 62 total points with 26 goals and 36 assists in 22 games. The class has accounted for eight assists over the last four games, helping the Orange and Brown go 2-1-1 over that time. The 62 total points are accounted for 38 percent of the team's total points. Falcon Goals
The Falcons have found success scoring goals this season, averaging 2.91 goals per game after 22 games this season, compared to just 1.8 the team produced in the first half of last season. Bowling Green's 64-goal output to start the season has been the most goals scored in the first 22 games since 2007-08, when the Falcons scored 67 goals.
Month Of November
The hockey team ended the month of November with an overall record of 4-5-1, improving from a 1-5-1 mark a year ago. Overall, Bowling Green has doubled their overall point total after two months of play, with 14 this season compared to seven last year. Â

Alabama Huntsville Last Week: The University of Alabama in Huntsville were one of three Western Collegiate Hockey Assocation teams playing over the holiday break. The Chargers took on 15th-ranked Wisconsin in Madison, Wisc. UAH dropped a 5-0 decision on Friday night to the Badgers at the Kohl Center. The Chargers could not overcome a 2-0 deficit in the first period as they were outshot 55-9 in the game.
UAH had a strong showing on Saturday night, but fell 3-2 to Wisconsin in the second game of the road series. The Chargers were in the game throughout, but a late goal by the 15th-ranked Bagers gave them a two-goal advantage with little time remaining. The loss was the sixth one-goal loss for the Chargers this season, all coming on Saturday night.
Alabama Huntsville's record dropped to 1-19-0 on the season, and dropped to 0-8-0 in non-conference games this season.
