LAST TIME THEY MET
Date: Dec. 28, 2012
Location: Grand Forks, N.D. (Betty Engelstad Sioux Center)
Score: North Dakota, 56-53
Notes: The Bowling Green men's basketball team overcame an 11-point first half deficit to take a late lead Friday night, but North Dakota scored the final five points of the game to defeat the Falcons 56-53. Richaun Holmes capped off a terrific second half by rebounding a missed jumper by teammate A'uston Calhoun and scoring a tough basket inside, while being fouled, with one minute remaining. Holmes' free-throws gave the Falcons a 53-51 lead, the first time the team had been ahead since early in the game. North Dakota, though, answered by getting an offensive rebound on its next possession and throwing it out for a Jamal Webb three-pointer with 43 seconds left to put UND back on top. Bowling Green came up empty on its final three possessions, including an attempted three-pointer with nine seconds left and North Dakota escaped with the win. After playing just two minutes in the first half with foul trouble, Holmes had eight points and four blocks in the final eight minutes, finishing with a career-best six blocks on the evening. Jordon Crawford had a game-high 14 points, 12 in the second half, and Calhoun finished with 12 points and eight rebounds. Bowling Green scored the first four points of the contest but North Dakota answered with a 13-3 run and eventually took an 11-point lead at 23-12. An Anthony Henderson three-pointer started a 9-0 run for the Falcons and North Dakota took a six-point lead into the break at 29-23. North Dakota led by as many as nine points in the second half, getting a Jordan Allard lay-up with 15:52 to play for a 40-31 lead. Henderson again sparked a 9-0 run with a three-pointer and Bowling Green tied the game with a Crawford lay-up with 9:43 to go. The two teams traded baskets until an Allard free-throw with 3:52 left put UND ahead 51-47. Crawford knocked down a three-pointer with 2:44 to go before Holmes' three-point play with one minute left gave the Falcons the lead. North Dakota shot just 37.5 percent from the field and Bowling Green made 41.7 percent of its shots. But UND held a 42-25 rebounding edge, including 17 offensive boards. The Falcons also made only 8-of-15 free-throws. BGSU did force 17 North Dakota turnovers, garnering 10 steals, but the Falcons committed 13 turnovers.

LAST GAME: FALCONS PUSH XAVIER TO THE LIMIT IN OVERTIME LOSS
Cincinnati, Ohio – Junior forward Richaun Holmes recorded a career-high 26 points as the Bowling Green State University men's basketball team pushed the Xavier Musketeers to the limit in an 85-73 overtime loss on Saturday afternoon in the Cintas Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. The game saw 10 lead changes and was tied on nine different occasions over the 45 minutes of play. Xavier took control of the game in the overtime period, as the Musketeers were 4-of-7 (57.1 percent) from the floor and 7-of-8 (87.5 percent) from the charity stripe over the extra five minutes of play, while Bowling Green was only 1-of-6 (16.7 percent) and 2-of-4 (50 percent) from the free throw line during that span. Fatigue appeared to play a part in the extra period, as the Falcons, who had four players record over 30 minutes of game action on the day, took a 69-68 lead on a foul shot from Black early, only to see Xavier make a free throw to tie the game seconds later and then finish the game out on a 16-4 surge as BGSU missed on 4-of-5 shot attempts over the final two minutes of the overtime period. Both teams were called for over 20 fouls each, while BGSU was 18-of-31 (58.1 percent) from the free throw line compared to Xavier's 23-of-33 (69.7 percent) for the game. While BGSU was outscored 38-32 in points in the paint, the Falcons held a 19-2 advantage in second chance points and 18-14 in points off turnovers. Yet the biggest difference came off the bench, as the Musketeers' bench outscored the Falcons' reserves 39-12 for the contest.
OVERTIME THRILLER
The Falcons took the Musketeers to overtime on Dec. 7, as BGSU erased an 11-point second half deficit to take a two-point lead with less than a minute to go in regulation. However, Xavier outscored BGSU 17-5 in the extra five minute frame to escape the Cintas Center with an 85-73 overtime win. The loss puts Bowling Green at 0-1 this season in overtime games.
HOLMES TABBED MAC EAST DIVISION PLAYER OF THE WEEK (12-9)

In a win over Western Kentucky on Monday night, Holmes poured in a career-high 18 points, hauled in seven rebounds and swatted away a season-high five blocked shots in the contest, one shy of his career-high. The five blocks was the most for a single BGSU player since Holmes himself totaled five swats versus Central Michigan on Jan. 9, 2013. The 6-8 forward followed that up with a career-high 26 points as the Bowling Green State University men's basketball team pushed the Xavier Musketeers to the limit in an 85-73 overtime loss on Saturday afternoon. Along with his career-high 26 points, Holmes hauled in nine rebounds and registered five blocked shots in a career-high 39 minutes of play. Holmes almost single-handedly kept the Falcons in the game throughout the contest, as he poured in 11 points in the second half, including scoring four straight points over a one minute and 30 second span late in the second half to give BGSU a 67-66 lead with just over a minute to play in the game. Holmes also poured in four of Bowling Green's five points in the overtime period. Overall, Holmes averaged 22 points, eight rebounds, one steal and five blocks per game last week.
