Softball Earns Sweep Over Dayton

DAYTON, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University softball team earned a sweep over Dayton Saturday evening, defeating the Flyers 3-0 and 5-3.
Junior Katie Yoho led the Falcons with three hits in game one, going 3-for-4 with a home run and an RBI. Senior Hannah Fulk also hit a homer in the contest, going 1-for-4 with an RBI. Sophomore Paris Imholz (7-1) picked up the complete-game shutout victory, allowing just five hits and striking out five.
Fulk gave Bowling Green a positive jump in the first at bat of the contest, knocking a solo home run to right center, giving the Falcons a 1-0 lead.
The Orange and Brown struck again in the top of the fourth inning, scoring a run on two hits. Sophomore Emily McCelland started the inning with a one-out single to left field, eventually moving to second due to a hit batter. Freshman Marisa Shook sent a double to left field on the following play, bringing home McCelland home for a 2-0 Falcon lead.
Yoho capped the scoring for Bowling Green in game one, sending a solo home run to right center in the top of the fifth to secure the 3-0 win for the Falcons.
The momentum carried over into game two, as Bowling Green completed the sweep of Dayton with a 5-3 victory.
Senior Paige Berger recorded three hits in game two, going 3-for-4 with a triple and an RBI. Fulk also had a strong showing in game two, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Sophomore Jamie Kertes (3-5) picked up the win, allowing three runs and striking out three in 5.1 innings of play. Imholz came in to pitch the final 1.2 innings, earning her ninth career save to set the Bowling Green all-time record.
The Falcons scored four straight runs to open the game, crossing the plate once in the first, second, third and fourth inning respectively. Dayton scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth, but Bowling Green pulled away with a fifth and final run in the top of the seventh to secure the game two win, and a sweep of the Dayton Flyers.
The Falcons are right back in action on Tuesday, March 19, facing off against Oakland in a doubleheader in Bowling Green, with the first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.
